After days of fighting, sweating, and bleeding, after what was practically considered to be a miniature war, Twilight and her Princess have returned home at last. It’s been two weeks, and Rainbow Dash couldn't be happier that she was dating Ponyville’s most dependable pony, Applejack. Applejack, while unsure of how it would turn out at first, finally starts feeling comfortable enough about their relationship and tells Dash that they can finally tell their friends about it.

As she’s planning how to best go about telling their friends, Ponyville is met with wonderful news: Applejack’s mother, Apple Butter, is going to be visiting Ponyville, making it the first time in ten years that either of Applejack’s parents have visited! With the entire town planning a welcome party, the two mares may find it hard to tell their friends about their relationship, and they’ll come to realize why Applejack’s mother might make it even harder.

It's been two years, two years since two mares started dating. The mares are two of the elements, Kindness and Laughter. This Hearth Warming Day is the day of their second year anniversary, and a small present lays under the tree. What's in it? A circlet. In front of Laughter are two cupcakes. A seemingly simple act of kindness.

A day before the town-wide Hearts and Hooves Day party, Twilight Sparkle received a strange note in the mail. There was no doubt that it was Rarity who had penned the curvy script gracing the letter, but the riddle that lay tauntingly alongside her greeting was quite the mystery.

And Twilight loved solving a good mystery.

If Twilight had learned something from her relationship with Rarity, it was that even if she was hopelessly in love with the other unicorn, she wanted Rarity to fulfill her dreams -- even if it meant sacrificing their own relationship and breaking both their hearts.

Part of the Bodyguard!AU Series, based on Earthsong9405's AU where Twilight is the bodyguard to a "Princess/Queen Rarity". Prior knowledge of the AU is not necessary to read the story.

Twilight has learned that ponies can change a lot in only a year or two.
