A Present for Us

Ring!
The pink door closed as the bell rang out.
A bright evergreen tree stood on a pink carpet, it's ornaments were sweets. Candies and cupcakes. At the top stood a golden star, as out of place on the sugar-coated tree as rain in a desert.
In front of it laid two ponies: a yellow pegasus, and a bright pink earth pony. The pegasus was laying on top of the pink pony, their pink hair mixing like batter. Both of their eyes were closed, but smiles were on their lips.
Two earrings were embedded in their ears. The yellow and pink pegasus pony had a diamond balloon in her right ear. The pure pink pony had a diamond butterfly in her left.
The couple had been together for two years. Today marking the last day.
Today Fluttershy had given Pinkie her first molted feather, a sign of great affection in the Pegasus tribe. Pinkie had given her marefriend a kiss and a hug, for once at a loss of words. She tucked the feather behind her pink ear, the same ear as the earring.
Their anniversary was on Hearth's Warming Day. Today, the day of memories.

Pinkie Pie was taking a walk, if you'd met her years before it would be strange, but not anymore: For weeks Pinkie had left on walks everyday, at the same time: Sunset. Where she had gone was unknown to the Cakes, but so were many of her feelings.
Her hooves led her to the same spot they did everyday: the hill by a certain yellow pegasi's house. She laid on the hill, her muzzle buried in her hooves. For more weeks then the party pony could count she'd been afflicted by strange feelings for this friend. She had never experianced these feelings before, she'd been clueless. But recently, after telling her friend Rarity, Pinkie had discovered what it was. Love.
The pegasus of her affections was outside of her house, bending low enough to be eye level with her pet bunny. Angel was pouting about his food, saying it was to plain or something like that. Well, he'd done it before!
Fluttershy seemed to be arguing with him, she'd been doing it more ever since that Iron Will guy had come around. Pinkie smiled. After a few minutes of watching the scene unfold Pinkie couldn't stand being still anymore. She hopped onto her hooves, and... landed on a pointy stone.
"Owowowowowowowowow!" She'd shouted. That had caught Fluttershy's attention alright. The pegasus had been next to her friend in a flash.
"Pinkie Pie!" Flutters had said, "Are you okay?"
Pinkie wasn't; the stone had gone deep into her hoof, and tears fell down her face from the pain. But she just wouldn't admit she was feeling this much pain to her crush, so she lied. "Of course I am Shy!" A smile had been on her face, but the look in her eyes and her tears contridicted it.
"No your not!" Fluttershy had responded, worry clouding her eyes. "Here, follow me and I fix you right up." Shy blushed as she realized what she was saying, "I-if you don't mind that is."
Pinkie hesitated, then let her smile fall. She nodded, pain in her gaze. "Okay Flutters."
Once they had gone into Shy's house Fluttershy kept her promise, she sat Pinkie on the couch and got her medicinal kit. She began her work with herbs on the bottem of Pinkie's hoof. Pinkie had been shocked at the gentalness in her friend's touch.
After Fluttershy had finished Pinkie gushed out her secret; she just couldn't hold it in anymore. She'd been shocked when Shy had kissed her, but quickly complied. It turns out that Shy had loved Pinkie since the party pony had first become her friend. She had taught her how to win over her fears in the Everfree forest, that had meant so much to her.

Pinkie smiled at the memory, each word safe in her mind for eternity. "Hey, Flutters?" She asked her marefriend, "Do you remember when we first kissed? When I first told you?" Shy nodded, her smile growing wider.
"Do you remember our first anniversary, of when we started dating?" Pinkie nodded, now no one could possibly beat how wide her smile was.

"Hey, um, Pinkie?"
"Yeah Shy?" Pinkie replied, immedietly stopping her task of mixing batter and looking at her marefriend.
"Twilight showed me somthing today and I kind of want to do the tradition it describes. If that's okay with you."
"Well I have to see it first, silly filly!" Pinkie had said, "Do you have the book Twi gave you?" Fluttershy nodded, not even bothering to ask how her marefriend had know about the book. She pulled the book in question out of her saddle bags and set it on the counter. Pinkie ran over an pulled it open to the page marker. She stared at the book for a while.
The story told of Mirror Glaze, a pegasus who married a crystal pony. On the couple's first anniversary the pegasus had her boyfriend's best friend pierce her right ear, while her best friend pierced her boyfriend's left. The couple had each other's cutie marks engraved in two different diamonds. The others going in their ear.
Pinkie looked up from the book, "So, Shy, you want us to get our ears pierced next month," The party pony smiled, "I can live with that."
When their anniversary had fianally come the diamonds had arrived and the ones who would pierce their ears chosen. Four ponies were sitting in Pinkie's room; the couple themselves; Pinkie and Fluttershy, as well as Rarity, representing Fluttershy, and the one to pierce Pinkie's left ear, and Rainbow Dash, as Pinkie's friend she was piercing Flutter's right ear.
The more knowledgable of the two, Rarity, had put a red dot on Fluttershy's ear to ensure the pegasi's safety. As the one to request the ritual Fluttershy came first.
Dash stepped forward, a silver needle in her mouth and the earring of Pinkie's mark balancing on her back. Pinkie offered her hoof to her marefriend, as Rarity had told them that this would hurt. As Dash pricked her ear and slid in the earring Shy squeaked, but didn't move.
Pinkie was next. Rarity stepped forward, a fresh needle and Flutter's earring were clutched in her magic. In one swift motion Pinkie's ear was pierced and the earring in her ear. The couple kissed and it was done.
"Happy Hearth's Warming Girls."

"I'm ready now." Shy said, opening her eyes. She nuzzled into Pinkie's neck before taking the pink present from between her mare friend's hooves.
She smiled as she looked at her marefriend, and the feather tucked behind her ear. Then looked back to the present
The box itself was decently large, about the size of her head, and thin. The box was wrapped in a paper pink that matched her mane, and tied with a bow that matched Pinkie's.
"Wait!" Pinkie said suddenly, she jumped up and returned with two cupcakes. "These were in the oven," She explained, "We can have them after you open it." Shy smiled and started opening the present. She did it slowly, careful not to rip it. The bow came first, then the wrapping itself. Beneath the paper was a white felt box, it was light.
Fluttershy opened it. Inside was a circlet, made of copper. It was plain except for two leaves stretching out at two different points. She looked at Pinkie, the mare was smiling. She picked up the crown and set it on the pony's head.
She then gave her vanilla cupcake. On it was pink writing. Fluttershy gasped. It said four words, four words that meant more than the world. Will you marry me? Fluttershy stared at it then looked at Pinkie, she said something she knew she would never regret, ever.
"Yes." Tears streamed down both their cheeks as the engaged couple kissed.
