After coming to live in Ponyville and discovering the joy of having friends, Twilight found a new appreciation for Hearth's Warming and its story about companionship keeping the cold at bay. It would come as a surprise to her to learn that anypony could think she's forgotten the spirit of Hearth's Warming, but the new Princess of Friendship has a habit of sometimes missing details, even when they're right under her snout.

On Hearth's Warming Eve, Twilight is visited by three ghosts who take her on a journey across time to show her what she's almost missed.

Cadence lied. It wasn't something petty, either. She lied when she said 'I love you', when she said her vows, and when she said 'I do'. She never loved Shining Armour, rather his sister.

After telling Shining and Twilight the situation, they work to correct this mistake. However, with over half of the nobles being against filly foolers, Cadence faces the ultimate price for her love, dethronement.

A friend notices Applejack acting odd and calls her out on it. With that prodding, our honest earth pony manages to cough up the truth to Twilight and is shocked when she is eager to try out being more than friends. Knowing they cannot put telling the others that are important to them, Applejack and Twilight are quick to make the rounds and things mostly go smoothly. In the end, things look bright for everyone.

Twilight has discovered a new spell to use in tandem with the Elements of Harmony. Its intent is to reveal more of the mysteries behind the artifacts. Yet once the spell is cast will the mane six be able to deal with the consequences? What will they learn when they come face to face with the very virtues they claim to embody? Because of strong Gryphon values which look down on alternative relationships, how will Troy's family react when they discover he's not only with someone of a different species, but of the same gender? As traditions clash with taboos, how will the Gryphon handle telling his brothers and parents, while still staying with the stallion he cares about? Can he keep everyone together, or will family bonds break under pressure?
