Princess Cadence finds herself in Ponyville to settle a political dispute, but she has other things on her mind. Her aunts, Celestia and Luna, have been talking to some mysterious figure who's somehow connected to Cadence herself. Who is this figure? What does he have to do with Cadence? What in Equestria does the legend of the Alicorn Prince have to do with any of it?

Nobody knows this but long ago Princess Luna had a young alicorn colt but she never saw him again when Nightmare Moon took over. But now that Nightmare is no longer around, how will her son, Night Sky react and cope with his mother being Princess Luna. But Night Sky must chose, should he stay with his friends or be with his mother again, he can't have both, can he? And who is Ember Phoenix?

It is Hearth's Warming Eve in Equestria, and the four princesses are having a private gift exchange for themselves. In what seems to be a spur of the moment decision, Princess Celestia gifts Twilight a nutcracker doll and tells her the Legend of the Nutcracker Prince, a story about a pegasus captain who was trapped in the form of a nutcracker doll.

Twilight initially dismisses such fanciful talk, but deep down, something about the story resonates with her. The doll intrigues her far more than a simple toy should, but when she falls asleep that Hearth's Warming Eve night, she awakens to find herself face to face with the very being she believed wasn't real, and now she must help him escape the curse. But there is far more to breaking the curse than she originally thought. But with this knowledge in mind, can she save the cursed stallion and return him to Equestria?

Everypony knows the Hearth’s Warming Eve tale of tribal unity and the shared rule which followed. Everypony also knows that alicorns - singular or dual - have sat on Equestria’s throne for well over a thousand years.

Very few have really looked in to what actually happened between those points.

Even Twilight Sparkle, until a chance encounter leads her to an alarming discovery: Neither she, nor any other alicorn, has actually held any legal right to Equestria’s throne. They are technically usurpers, autocrats - even tyrants.

Still struggling with her own personal rule, having the fundamental basis for her authority swept from beneath her leaves Twilight with one simple, yet impossible question: 

Now what?

Yet, in this unfamiliar realm, a world of dragons he knows so little about, Spike is forced to grapple with profound questions of identity-who he truly is, what he aspires to become, and whether he can ever embody the essence of what it is to be a dragon.

Emerald Crescent has always been picked on in school due to his nationality of being half zebra and unicorn, but he pays no mind to it. He had a few friends but that never stopped the bullying and the abuse by the high class ponies in Canterlot. Having had enough he moves out of Canterlot and goes to Ponyville for a new life.

Will he be able to improve his life? Or will it just be a repeat of the past?
