Whether you directly cause death or end up as a stepping stone for it, you can make your choice.
Punishment is dealt either way and the guilt lingers on your soul forever.
But what happens if you don't have a choice in the first place?
Is your punishment as harsh?
Does guilt eat away at you as painfully?
The debates of these questions vary, as do the answers.
They all depend on who you are and what affects your choices.
But after all of it is over you can be happy, or be forgotten.

There is a changeling living in Equestria, under the disguise as a pegasus pony named Stellar Shift, and trying to make a new life after the last failed conquest.
He moves to a small town known as Ponyville, hoping that nobody will pry into his very, very special talent.
On the first day he meets six ponies that he remembers all too well from the past. Will they discover his true identity and shun him? Or will he be able to hide his unique abilities?

After a magical spell gone wrong (God, another?) Twilight inadvertantly summons a strange creature to Equestria. The creature is different than it remembers, with wings and a newfound aptitude for electromagic. Is there something sinister behind the change? And when the time comes, will the creature wield it's powers for Equestria? Or against it? And just what are Spellblooms, anyway?

Usually when you are killed, you die. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. Usually those exceptions don't end up in a world full of colorful talking ponies with 3 other people from random points of Earth's history, but hey, I can't complain too much. Now if we can just figure out what happened, how we ended up in Equestria, and who is responsible for this mix up...

Twilight can not find her pillow.

A young unicorn finds himself deep in Everfree forest, with no recollection of how he got there or who he is. Determined to find some answers and with the help of his visions, he journeys out of the forest to Ponyville.

Is he really better off knowing his past? The journey of self discovery takes him above "just finding answers", but "fitting in", forging new friendships, making enemies and learning new things.

My first fan-fic, criticism is welcome! I'll use the advice to help me write the second chapter.

A stallion wakes to the Main Six ponies standing around him. He doesn't know them, and the only memories he has are blurs of sound and light. The Main Six take it upon themselves to help him regain his memories while making some of their own. During it all, there is an ongoing war between a race of wolves called the Lupine, and the Griffons. This war threatens to spill over into the heart of Equestria as Princess Celestia works to bring both sides to a peaceful solution. As the war and his memories gain strength, he may find that sometimes you are better off starting over.

Just a disclaimer...I have a bit of an idea where this is going, but it is one of my fan fictions and as such it usually is written on the fly, and without a great deal of planning. This is because what feels right to me one day may feel completely wrong the next.

After failing to stop Nightmare Moon in the ancient castle of the pony sisters, Twilight Sparkle is left with a scar that will permanently change the rest of her natural born life. As Twilight recovers from her ordeal, she finds that she is left with a difficult choice. Either live her life as a lie or sacrifice her innocence to protect the ones she loves. The path before her is set and she must now walk it alone. The sands of time continues ever onward, with everyone already trapped in its muddy depths. The sun will rise and the sun will fall. Waiting for its call, Death awaits for all.

I just put the two together

I always wanted to go to Equestria. When I got the chance, I took the deal without reading the fine print. To my surprise, I didn't arrive there as a pony, or even as a human. It seems I get to view this world from a different perspective than what I've imagined.
