An ancient evil has awakened. No, really, it has. From the depths of time, a black, noxious threat has risen up after millennia of imprisonment. It washes like oil over Equestria, swallowing up towns and uncovering terrible secrets long buried. Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity are prepared to combat this great darkness. However, to do so, they must uncover the truths about the Elements of Harmony, and the truths about the ancient forerunners of Equestrian culture. What they find will challenge their conceptions of their own places in history and ponydom's place in the world. The six Bearers of the Elements must draw upon their friendship and the strength of their hearts to stand firm against the darkness. If they fail, it will mean the end of everything.

Congratulations, Twilight. With Celestia and Luna on their constitutionally mandated vacation, you're in charge of Equestria. The position of Regent is an honored and hallowed one. Rarity has designed a dress that has been chosen to be the 'in thing' for the Grand Galloping Gala. Applejack is the first to hear this news, and wants to throw her a party, but it won't be easy.

Upon her return from Dodge Junction, something has changed inside Applejack. Her feelings for a certain pony have become as solid as the diamonds that adorn said pony's flank. However, will Ponyville's own Southern belle ever pluck up the courage to be the mare that wins Rarity's heart?

In a stroke of luck, Rarity finds herself piled up to her neck in work. She tries to recruit the aid of her best friends, but they too have become highly preoccupied. All except for Ponyville's modest blonde-maned apple bucker. The two have never been really close, but who know what could happen over just a little bit of dirt?
