Remember that picture I linked in my last blog?
Yeah, that one.
Remember how I said that my brain wouldn't shut up about it?
Well, I kinda turned it into a story. Because reasons.
Right, now that the obligatory self-promotion is out of the way, we can get to the important stuff. Namely, the fact that my fanfic reading has been tapering as of late. I have stuck to my favorites and read little else and that's starting to bother me.
So, I want to ask you all to recommend a fic for me to read. I don't care about the tags, though I tend to shy away from Dark or Sad fics, but I'd like you to recommend someone else's fic so that the recommendations become less about obligatory self-promotion and more about sharing a quality piece of writing with me.

Bitter Harvest is very funny, cute and takes a smart introspective turn in the fourth chapter. Yes, it's a ship-fic, but there's no clop. I like it.

1870908 Jack is speaking, and he says to read Them by Ether Echoes. It is by far one of the best things I have ever read, but I probably couldn't explain it without writing a novel-length description. Either way, it is a wonderful read and if you enjoy fics that make you think, this one is for you.

Of Steam Gears and Wings.
If you like steampunky stuff, you will love this. If you dont, I am genuinely curious as to how you function on the internet..... :P. In all sincerity though: The fic is one of the best on the site.
WARNING!!!! THE NEXT PARAGRAPH CONTAINS SPOILERS! DO NOT READ IT IF YOU LIKE TO BE SURPRISED! SKIP TO MY NEXT PARAGRAPH INSTEAD! YE HATH BEEN WARNED.
Set in a dystopian future of sorts for Equestria, we follow the tale (mostly) of the cutie mark crusaders. Celestial is believed to have passed on and Blueblood has seized control. After his tyrannical propencities have been displayed.clearly enough, Luna incites her people to rebellion. Our story picks up with the Crusaders on a smuggling mission, against the will of their older siblings... The are tagged by the government and attempt to flee. Scoots gets away to see her beloved airship crash and burn in the distance. Thinking her friends dead, she leaves and attempts to find a new path. Applebloom and Pipsqeak survive the conflagration and make their way back home. Sweetie is tried and sent to a maximum security prison... How they manage to get reunited is a large bulk of the story. What happens afterwards is another chunk. And after the final battle over Ponyville the story yet continues.
I was actively cheering at points, and nearly in tears at others. It is by leaps and bounds one of the most satisfying reads I've ever had, period. I do not mean that it's one of the most well written fan fiction works out there. That goes without saying. It is. I mean to say that it is one of the best stories I have ever read, period. I consume fiction in all forms. I am a story teller myself after a fashion. Fiction in all of it's forms is how I stay sane. This story... Wow. I live it. It's not just steampunk. Which is party why I love it. Steampunk evokes images of the Victorian Era with grand Airships and a classically industrialized society.... Cogs gears and brass are everywhere, wether they are necessary or not. This though... If you know your world war two history. .. Flawless descriptions of aircraft and technology that simply don't normally fit the Steampunk bill. Throw in friendship, magic, CMC shenanigans, and some of the most tear jerkingly hilarious or amazingly sad dialogue I've ever seen and you have this story...

Well, Sad and Dark are my favs, as they are conductive to interesting introspection on humanity pushed to the extremes. So, I'll have a few of those at the end. I'll bring my favorite happy ones. They may be marked sad, though.
