And you've now earned my upvote with how you've been moving forward. I'm impressed with your writing, and everything you've done thus far. Really touching advice with the relation between Celestia and Luna.
2936497 Nothing like a running joke, eh? This one is working pretty well, too!
I'm really enjoying this story and I'm very grateful to the author for entrusting the proofreading to me. The author is great to work with and I very much look forward to reading more of their work!
Awwwww.... Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia, reading together. This is so cute. Are you trying to kill me with cuteness? Because if you are, its working.
Nothing like a little bonding time between Twilight and Celestia to crank the fluffiness to the max. And hey, Thunder should be happy - if his job as a consort is to care for the princesses, I'd say he just managed a pretty good job at it by telling Celestia to go and spend time with Twilight. And Celestia should consider the upside as well - Twilight might not be her student forever, but at least now they do have forever to spend together, even if not as teacher/student, instead of her eventually having to bury Twilight. I'm surprised that Thunder thought his cover story would work with Twilight though ... or that he thought they were keeping it a secret from her at all. I mean, she's a princess as well, surely it would be expected that she was in the loop.
Though I wonder what Twilight meant by "Philomena Test" and Celestia's comment that Thunder is going to be with them for quite some time. Is this an innocent statement, or are you slyly hinting at something here? By whose standards do we measure "quite some time" here? From the perspective of a mortal, or from the perspective of an Alicorn, said to another Alicorn? And speaking of Alicorns, you should totally have Thunder ask Celestia if he will have to 'attend' Twilight as well - with her being an alicorn princess and all. I imagine Celestia's reaction could be quite priceless (and potentially Twilight's as well, for that matter).
Anyways, can't wait for the next chapter - and what Luna will decipher from the dream once she sees it, this looks like a plot point to take note of.
Aw. That was sweet. However, I am curious as to what is causing Thunder's nightmares (other than stress). I would also like to see Thunder spend a little more time with Luna.
2978097 Nah, don't take it down. I just went a little overboard on trying to provide help and point out the issues with it. If you get too hung up on one thing, it'll just hang you up on everything else.
And I'm still sticking around, it's an interesting enough idea. Just a bit.. overenthusiastic on the advice.
The issue of immortality has never actually been brought up in the show itself, nor has it ever alluded to Celestia's and Luna's origins, or that they are "natural born Alicorns" - for all we know, they were 'normal' ponies once that ascended like Twilight did. Or they could have been born as Alicorns. We simply don't know, as the show hasn't ever hinted one way or another.
People go with all sorts of versions when writing their stories for creativity reasons, obviously, but the show itself hasn't given any reasons to support the idea that Alicorns are more different from one another any more than two Pegasus ponies are.
Hm, unless I have missed something rather important, I don't think Faust has made any statements to that end. I'm not sure she even could with authority, considering she wasn't involved in any way with creation of MLP:FIM season 3 (and thus with Twilicorn's birth), and was only a consultant to Season 2 (and thus Cadence's introduction). She was only directly involved with the writing of Season 1.
We do know that Cadence used to be a Pegasus before her ascension (as per Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart Spell, assuming the book can be considered canon), so we do know that Twilight becoming an Alicorn via ascension isn't unique among the species, but other than that ... *shrug*
What we can infer regarding Alicorns, from what know with certainty, is that Alicorns are 'born' via ascension (as we have seen with Twilight and Cadence) and that Alicorns, at the very least, have extremely long life spans (as we have seen with Celestia and Luna). This is what we can actually observe and deduct regarding Alicorns as a species.
Now, it certainly is possible that Celestia and Luna are somehow different from Twilight and Cadence, but that's a conjecture at this point in time. /debate mode off
Whew, now don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against exploring ideas that feature perfectly mortal Alicorn Twi (One of my favorite stories, The Road not Taken, does exactly that) and I'm grateful for all the creativity people pour in to tinkering with both possibilities, it's just that my default assumptions regarding Twilight's longevity, unless otherwise specified by the story in question, are based on the two members of her new species that have been around long enough to draw conclusions from regarding Alicorn lives.
dawwwwwwwwww
You are trying to kill us, your Faithful readers with cute! Aren't you!
D'awwww

...maybe
It almost seems like his consort 'job' might include Twilight as well. Just kinda seems that way to me but I'm probably wrong.
... right in the feels!!
X_X <-*DEAD* i regret nothing.

Keep up the good work. : )
So many good moments in this story, I always find myself looking forward to the next chapter.
I find it funny that him saying that he's the new national weather adviser never works. It's always someone who knows who he is. Lolz
This is my favorite chapter so far! soooo cute!
