Feels weird Decapitation literally means the complete severing the head from the body.
"So many of the bodies of the Royal Guards had there limbs severed... Fore-hooves and back-hooves alike. Those that were not mere heads attached to their bodies, where torn apart haphazardly their remains naught but chunks of bloodied flesh with fur and shattered pieces of armor. The squad officers decapitated where they once stood, some of the heads that are scattered on the blood soaked corridors of horror with their spines still attached to their heads but ripped clean of their bodies. The coppery smell of blood overwhelmed the area. The massacre was quick, unflinchingly savage, and cruel. All right. Ignoring my more disturbing version of it. Just remember the difference between "severing" and "decapitation".
"Decapitation" gets its own word due to the universal cultural importance of the removal of the head of ones body, it was always the fate of traitors and heinous criminals. And the preferred means to ensure the deaths of horrible man slaying beasts.
