Okay, here’s my thoughts on this chapter:
First things first, let’s look at the major part of any Phantom adaptation: The Unmasking
I was curious to see how you were going to handle that considering it’s an important part of any PotO adaptation. One thing I noticed that differs between this one and the original novel is the trust between the characters. After learning that the teacher she thought was an angel was actually a man who had been stalking her and lying to her, Christine tore off his mask to see the face of this voice she once believed she could trust. Interestingly enough—before she unmasked him herself—Christine does demand that he take off his mask, to which he informs her that she’ll never see his face, but gives her no reason why.
Butterscotch, on the other hand, knows at least a bit about Eris and why she wears a mask. And as far as I remember, they never really got onto the subject of whether or not touching the mask is off-limits. Though I can see why Butterscotch might think it was ok to unmask her, I sort of wonder why he would feel the need to if he already knows what’s behind the mask.
Still, that aside, I think the actual unmasking worked well, and I can’t say I’ve ever seen it played out like that quite before.
Now onto the steamier parts:
Steamy scene is steamy. Still, I’m glad they didn’t go all the way, as I prefer that sort of thing to be saved until after marriage. I find it much more romantic that way. (*chuckles* Reading a lot of Robin Jones Gunn in your impressionable teen years will do that.) And I have to say that when it comes to being in love, Eris and Butterscotch in this story are certainly a lot quicker on the uptake than Fluttershy and Discord are in mine.
