You've got me really interested now. Onward to understanding!

God it's Fluttershy isn't it? And then I look at the character tags, it's definitely her.

4749054 Well the tags kinda spoil any sense of suspense but I don't think we've seen Rarity yet.

4749055 First part of the first chapter mentions trouble with both Rarity & Fluttershy

4749062 Indeed, along with some of the character traits of "Daisybloom" I thought it could have been Fluttershy. Although the author would say otherwise

I always enjoy your stories and the writing and the amount of research that goes into it is legendary. There are a few minor points that niggled me though, wherever Crown or Honour appears they should (as far as I'm aware) always be capitalised.

Judge Rock - Assuming there are no further objections, we would like to begin with the facts of this case. This court calls Prince Captain Shining Armor to the stand.

Wouldn't it be Prince Shining Armour, Lord of the Crystal Empire and Captain of the Royal Guard. As in court his full title would need to be given?

4749279

Here he's being summoned in his capacity as a Captain of the Guard. The Prince title is added because, well, he's a Prince. All the rest of his titles are superfluous here, and Judge Rock is the kind of Judge who likes to keep things as tidy as he can in his courtroom.

At first I was wary because I'm not really a fan of courtroom dramas, but I have to say you've gotten me hooked. I will be certainly be reading future cases from the edge of my seat.

EeeeYIKES. Very good job, but man, this is only going to get more unsettling the deeper into this rabbit hole we go, isn't it?

Take this golden star. It will light your way for eternity. Follow the beam and you can never go wrong. However, if it dims, your path has become murky. If it goes out, you can never regain what you have lost.

Take this green hand with thumb extended. It always points up. If it ever switches to grey or red, brace yourself for the worst. It still will not be enough.

Take this floating eye. It grants sight clearer than should be possible to any who own it, but if it blinks, you can do nothing but accept your fate.

That's not how you spell "The Conversion Bureau"

4751714 No, it isn't, and for good reason.

Judge Rock - Mr. Chaser, you will not call the Princess’ credibility into question in my courtroom, or I shall hold you in contempt. Are we understood?

It was at this point I stopped taking the judge seriously. There is absolutely no need for a legal system if a group of four people can decide everything, and the legal system can do nothing but accept that what they say as fact.

Added, the very next thing to happen is the husband of one of these four individuals testifies.

4752437

Welcome to literally every single legal system within a Monarchy in the history of ever. Seriously.

4749060 But I have a feeling we have "seen" "Rarity".:duck:

Or at-least a mare who speaks just like her. Cough cough Lady Elegant.

4752651

And that's not necessarily a bad thing, depending on the monarch in question (and I think we can agree that Equestria has largely lucked out in that regard) - because where otherwise one might get away with doing crap like this because of legal loopholes, exploiting not clearly enough written laws and through pressure and expensive lawyers ...

Well, it might not be a bad thing to have someone above the system who can put her hoof down and tell everyone involved to cut the crap and that justice will win at the end of the day, not the ability to manipulate and navigate bureaucratic loopholes.

Of course there are issues with that as well, but it's not exactly a bad thing to have a benevolent ruler capable of waving aside legal jargon and intervening on behalf of the otherwise helpless victims.

Prosecution: White Cravat, Dark Coffee, Black Quills (Not Present)

Please please please tell me that's a Phoenix Wright reference.

4752437 I think he was telling the attorney to not start an argument with the crown when the princesses were merely observing the proceedings. The judge will give the final say on the sentence if the defendants are found guilty. The princesses wish to observe as the alleged victims are in horrible states, and two of the victims are Bearers.

Hoooooly shiiiiiiit.

I'm curious what the laws the Princess just enacted will do... and whom all was truly affected. And bravo to Bluefeathers.

think they could always use a certain crystalline tree for help. the potions have created an imbalance, and the tree creates balance. two of the ponies closest to it have been affected as well so it is likely the tree might well act.

..........celestia is going to scorch through the ranks of her own nobility like a hot iron on an infected wounds I think. she is probablyu gonna be pissed about all of this.

Man oh man I am loving this. The little hints at something greater, the multiple levels of deception and this

“The Case of the Century, and how it never came to be.”

I love it all!

I'd hoped it wouldn't turn into another Nobles Are The Scum Of Equestria Story.

Am I going to get disappointed..?

4760094
Then I shall eagerly await the eventual denouement!

In response to the quote, I agree. Stupidity is the absence of fear

You two are REALLY out to mess with us with this, and truly deserve that dark tag for horror and shock, aren't you?

Also, ONE or BOTH of you have read The Black Gryphon. A mage named Urtho Silencio is too coincidental, given Urtho was the Mage of Silence, and it was all about a silence spell. So which one of you was it?

........... why not just break the power that allows that ability? these are two ancient alicorns. their minds are probably not only too strong to be affected by the magic to begin with, else their mind would have shattered storing ten lifetimes of experiences, but their experience with magic is massive. if anyone could break apart the spells in question, it is them.

4769287
It was explained I think it was not a spell but alchemical potions. Potions using a plant that Discord himself created and has stated himself that even HE can't undo what it has done because he basically made it so powerful that he just can't. And for all of Celestia and Luna's power, they are unable to overpower Discord themselves, so how could they ever hope to over power the effects of a plant he created and even he can't undo? He is probably older then them and is basically confirmed as more powerful unless the Elements of Harmony are being used.

Also, I am thinking they may not be able to use the Elements of Harmony with Rarity and Fluttershy's conditions. Or the Rainbow Power if this takes place post Season 4.

in the state Princess Celestia is in I can see her needing that pony to be in jail

4769310 whether or not they were more powerful or nto is debatable to boe honest. perhaps back then, no, but they were clearly threat enough that he took an indirect method to try and beat them. still it seems roughly three of the alicorns could overpower him.

either way I have to say the nay to that. problem would be provoking the tree into action, but the tree is the closest thing to a god in mlp. its powers are nearly impossible to overcome and stop. it is something that seeks to keep a balance and to heal harm. it could easily revferse the damage caused here without question.
the problem, as I said, is causing it to perform that action. it is hard to understand.

4769445
Well the tree has been shown to not be completely all powerful. It dies without the Elements. And from what the show made it sound like, it spends most of its power keeping the Everfree Forest in check. I think the real power comes mostly from the Elements themselves. The tree just focuses their power. And it focuses it on containing the Everfree Forest. The other uses for power of Elements of Harmony needs ponies to focus their power to the desired effect as we have seen; otherwise I doubt Celestia and Luna would have needed to take the Elements to beat Discord since the tree could have done it for them if that was the case. And since Fluttershy and Rarity are out of commission, I argue again they power the Elements have likely can't be used to help them.

4769468 .......... the elements are part of the tree not a source of its powre......... and the tree was not dying because of lacking the elements, it was being weakened keeping back an eldritch forest for a millenium. the dying part came from the plunder seeds. the everfree itself is likely enormously poreful too if it requires the tree.
either way it wuold have its eleements now....... i guess we cannot say whether or not it could be coaxed into helping everyone but i think it wuold seek to heal its wielders. and if the elements can wipe away discord's chaos as if it ws nothing, the tree itself can wipe away what harms two of its bearers.

God the horror you have crafted is superb, the glimpse of what Shinning is doing combined with the terror of being forgten is amazing.

...A whirlwind ride of epic proportions.

So, Sweet Tart is a sort of unsung, right?

Three of the doctors are references to Megaman!

4769494

The Tree can't help here for one very specific reason.
Want to know what that is? Read and find out. :D

4770158 plot convenience?
seriously i cannot think of anything that could stop the tree at this point, at least in saving fltutershy and rarity. the reasoning wuold probably be pretty damn contrived. like the tree cannot see the change as disruptive even though it is obviously causing unstable alteration in ponies and is disrupting them both physically and mentally. or somehow someone is blocking the magic of a force so poreful it is keeping an eldritch forest at bay.
i would far from say the mgaic at work here can compare to discord's reality raping abilities, and the tree is clearly able to wipe away his chaos without effort. so i seriously cannot imagine HOW it could be stopped from at least healing some of the ponies, its range is likely limited, when even discord's magic is trivial.

4770258

First off, dude, take a minute to spell check. =P

Secondly, no. It's not plot convenience. In fact, I'd like to think the answer is pretty bloody obvious. Here's a hint - There is a very big difference between what has happened THIS time to them in terms of chaos magic, and what's happened to them before. That difference is the keystone.

4770319 why would the medium with which the chaos is spread be relevant to the tree? not saying the tree could just be a quick heal all, the tree is complicated and must be coaxed into action, though having two of its six bearers incapacitated would probably coax it for their sake. yet why would chaos in a bottle be out of its jurisdiction?

4770419

Got nothing to do with the medium, dude. It's got everything to do with HOW IT HAPPENED.

And I'm shutting up now, because we're getting into plot spoilers.

Egads! I'm late to the party!

Holy smokes! This is a big 'ol mess of nightmare fuel you've got going on here. Seriously, I thought you stopped writing Twilight War because you needed a break from dark stuff? :derpytongue2:

I'm both excited and afraid of when you pull back the curtain and reveal what happened to Rarity and Fluttershy.

This story so far has been rather gripping. Like staring at a gruesome train wreck. You can't take your eyes off of it.
