Sometimes, bad things happen to good ponies. A year following a tragic incident, Twilight Sparkle returns to Ponyville to visit what she has been missing - her town, her memories, and most importantly, her friends. But will everything be as she remembers it?

This story has a sequel titled "In History, Maybe".

Truly amazing, One of the best fics i've ever read.

#9 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

#10 · 115w, 4d ago · 1 · ·

This is just beautiful. Simply the best fan fiction i have read.

I had to stop reading several times because I was crying.

10/10 nothing really more to say.

#11 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

I desperately wanted a 'twilight comes back to life' ending

The fact that it states that this story is incomplete got my hopes up for a second chapter with said reviving

That was until I read THE END and you crushed my dreams:raritycry:

also, your writing is very good. One of the best written although sad fics I've read

#12 · 115w, 4d ago · 1 · ·

All I could think of with the cemetry part was This is good. Isn't it?.

Lovely story. Truly beautiful and heartwrenching. Take my like, as well as a moustache. :moustache:

Goodbye, Twi.

#14 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

R.I.P Twilight Sparkle. :fluttercry:

#15 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

I would have added a scene where all of Ponyville is about to lynch Trixie and only Celestia or Luna interfere.

Excellent story!

#16 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

You took the shiny rock, polished it, and turned it a gem for the internet to see. I said it pre reading, and i say it again. Masterful. This is probably rivaling my little dashie. If this doesn't get featured... I don't know... Just remember, you have the authors behind something epic on your back, we'll get this what it deserves!

#17 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

I can't believe it. This made me cry harder than "My Little Dashie." I just broke down half a dozen times while reading this story. :fluttercry::raritycry::pinkiesad2:

First thing i have to say.

FUCK YOU TRIXIE! BURN FOR ETERNITY YOU MONSTER!

Ok, now that that's out of the way.

This story needs to be spread. It's a great lesson. Appreciate EVERYTHING in your life. Even the hard times, because they make the good times that much sweeter. Also, this story reminded me of my feelings on death. Personally, I'm not scared of death. It's the goodbyes and the absences of the ones you loved that make me sad when I think of death. This story touched me deeper than "My Little Dashie" did. And for that, I thank you sir.

Liked, favorited, and watched. Words simply can not adequately describe this work of literature. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most beautiful story, fanfic and other, that I have ever read so far in this life. You are a brilliant author, with skills that I envy. Continue writing amazing stories and I wish you luck and success in your future.

I think that everything I needed to say have been said during the pre-reading. If you ever need a pre-reader, I'll gladly help you out mate!

>>544663 >>544783 you guys....just d'awwww.

>>544416 >>544580  Maybe...MAYBE...there will be an epilogue somewhere down the road. But for now, I'm leaving this as it is.

>>544717 jeez, well I don't think it's nearly THAT good :twilightblush: But thanks a ton, it means a lot.

>>544451 wow, I didn't even think of that for some reason...now I have an urge to play that game through for probably the tenth time...

#21 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

Manly tears were indeed shed this day.

#22 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

>>545590

You sell yourself short. You're a great writer with tons of potential. Don't let anybody tell you different. :trollestia:

#23 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

I think the fact Rainbow was in love with Twilight made it sadder.  Twidash is my favorite ship.:fluttercry::applecry::pinkiesad2:

#24 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

Oh god...I've never, even once, in my life described a story, any story at all, as beautiful. This is the first. It's not the saddest story I've ever read, it's not the most heartwarming, but it's honestly one of the best. I literally cannot decide whether to cry, or to smile. This is a top contender, definitely in my top 5 stories I've ever read. This was a complete masterpiece, a heartwarming and heartshattering tale with an important lesson. :pinkiesad2:

Don't stop writing, ever.

#25 · 115w, 4d ago · · ·

That...was...

Beautiful doesn't even describe this magnificent piece of artwork.  Tears were shed throughout.

#26 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Not. One. Tear. Not a single drop. That shows something about my will right there. Or my coldness. I really don't want to know which. I wasn't even trying to not cry. Either way, it feels... strange, somehow, to not be saddened by something that made several people burst into tears. Nice writing, though, as you had me puzzled at first.

>>544717 MLD was worse for me, with the realization that came shortly after the end. "...The last time we would see each other." EVER. Even in death, they're separated. This story eventually has a happy ending, even if it's several decades later. I didn't shed a tear at either one of them, though, which makes me feel even more awkward.

#27 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

>>545590 I'dd very much love to have an epilogue to this story

If you decide to do it, don't stress yourself and write with the same passion as your original story

I just hope I can bare whatever sadness awaits in the epilogue. I believe you went to far to now pull of a cleverly written 'revival of Twilight', so that's probably out of the question and basically everything else is agony to me:pinkiesad2:

No pressure though:scootangel:

#28 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

>>545590

Aye, I know that feeling. I actually just waited for Celestia to say it. :rainbowlaugh:

WHYDIDISIGNUPFORTHIS!:flutterrage:

My main complaint is that I could not prepare myself for all of the horrible brain-mushing sadness that is a pony's premature death. It didnt really say anything about dying on the tin.

EDIT: *delete* Nevermind.

I want you to know know that this story was absolutely amazing. Exceptionally well written, and does what it is intended to do beautifully. I had to stop reading so many times to get the tears out of my eyes so I could see the screen.

I don't want you to think that I thought this story was bad. My brain just does not handle the concept of pony death well, is all.

EDIT: *delete* Nevermind.

I had a big long rant (not too long, I think) here about death tags and epilogues, then I decided it was stupid. I suppose I couldn't effectively read what I had written because my brain had turned to mush.

#32 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Why can I not cry?! This was just so sad, no, so heart wrenching, and I couldn't shed even a single tear! You got me close though, several times in fact. But, as said by many above, this story was written as though by the hand of a master. You did exceptionally well at conveying emotion. And the fact that Rainbow Dash was in love with Twilight, well, that almost made me weep when she admitted it. I say, write more! I'd give you a gold medal, but I seem to have lost them, so you'll have to make due with a like, fave, and a watch. Plus this comment!

#33 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Well... this was truely sad.

I can't compose my thoughts in words. But... I will remember.

Always.

#34 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

:fluttercry: :applecry: :ajsleepy: :raritycry:

#35 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Truly astonishing, many tears has been shed. Beautiful, really. :raritycry:

#36 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Unbelievable...very hard to put into words all that this fic did...This is either the very best fic I've ever read, in any fandom, or it's pretty darn close...wow

#37 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

Amazing story. All of my :applecry::fluttercry::pinkiesad2::raritydespair:

#38 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

this... this was more than brilliant

I have no words to describe this:fluttercry:

#39 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

i was in tears for about 90% of this, its too tragic, Twilight is far too brilliant of a pony to have her life snuffed out so young... it was beautifully written, but i shouldn't have read it, left me in tears for over an hour trying to get through it.  But thank you, there has to be your heart in this story, that you shared with us. Thank you.

#40 · 115w, 3d ago · · ·

That was beautiful. I must thank Something Epic for linking me to this story. theswimminbrony, thank you for such a great story. Really tugged at my emotions... I will have a good nights sleep. :pinkiesad2:

#41 · 115w, 2d ago · 1 · ·

She smiled serenly as she drifted away

That was the deal,

At the end of the day,

No matter what they did feel,

Or words they had to say,

For this was the end of the reel,

And Twilight's last play.

#42 · 115w, 2d ago · · ·

I don't...

I...

THERE ARE NO WORDS. NONE.

:applecry::fluttercry::fluttershbad::fluttershyouch::fluttershysad::pinkiesad2::raritycry::raritydespair:

And now I have to sit here and convince myself that I don't want to cry. WHY DO I READ THESE MASTERPIECES?

All in all, a perfect blend of emotional pain, with some tear-jerking moments. But all in all, this fic truly attests to the power of friendship.

An upvote and a favourite for you!

Sincerely,

ChrisTheCat

"Oh, nothing...nothing really. I was just a little curious if you could do the same with a big, bad Ursa Major."

*BEEP BEEP*

You hear that author? That's my rage alarm. You have 3 seconds to rectify this situation, get my waifu out of this situation, and stop writing something so goddamn sad before I personally rage and then try to break my laptop and you.

>>547126 If I do make an epilogue, the story so far wouldn't change. Unfortunately, the death would still be permanent.

ENOUGH SAD FICS GAHHHHHHH!!!! :flutterrage:

Nice story btw :moustache:

#50 · 115w, 3h ago · · ·

How do I put this . . . it seems confused in its message, at least to my mind.

It's trying to say death isn't so bad, yet it displays it as almost nothing but.

So . . . yeah, not sure it's working cohesively.
