In a last act of defiance, King Sombra not only dragged the Crystal Empire with him to his thousand-year imprisonment, but the Elements of Harmony as well. And so, with the rise of Nightmare Moon, the course of history was forever altered.
A thousand years later, on the Eve of Hearth's Warming, a certain young dragon is tasked with overseeing some of the preparations for the upcoming celebration, with a strange addition to the list; make a few friends. He can't imagine why; it's not as though the fate of Equestria depends on it.
But neither could he imagine the return of the dark king on that very night, and never would it cross his mind that he would soon embark on a journey to the north to stop him, with a group of strangers by his side.

Ohhoho, now this is interesting. Well written, good characterization, just enough hints at the various changes in this alternate Equestria to tantalize the reader, and Discord as a major player, if the cover art and cast icons are anything to go by. What more could a man ask for, Liked and faved. Bravissimo, my good sir.

An interesting start, to be sure, and it leaves me wondering on the changes of the past, from the apparent change of the former Ponyville to being the capital, to Discord's apparent freedom. I do wonder on what age changes may be mixed in, as Twilight and Spike almost seem to have switched ages, and Fluttershy seems the same as Twilight.

3388584 It's been hinted at in the little bit at the very beginning that he's not exactly at full power. Given how completely he was forgotten in canon Equestria (or rather, retconned into existence), a Discord who isn't capable of turning the world into a madhouse would probably keep a lower profile without any trouble, and most likely go by a different name while he was at it...
This looks like it'll be very interesting, great first chapter and plenty of potential.
Very interesting though all the cannon changes made me go
like 50 times. It seems they are still using the castle in the Everfree which apparently didn't grow so that's interesting. Also I'm calling it now, Twilight is going to have a crush on Pound Cake, cuz it just wouldn't be the same if the assistant didn't crush on somepony.
