As a brony who prides himself on always knowing where the fine line between fantasy and reality lies, Joseph Ryan Ang was more than skeptical about where exactly he thinks he has landed himself up in when he stumbles and falls through a large hole in the forest while out on a solo hiking trip in the forests of Tennessee. But when he begins to encounter, and subsequently escape from several familiar creatures, each one harassing him and then moving on to nearly killing him on his harrowing journey back to civilisation, the realization that he just might have stumbled into another world altogether begins to take hold.
The realization then batters relentlessly against walls of skepticism, but even as the evidence begins to mount before his eyes, he continues to hold on to the incontrovertible facts that there are no such things as portals, and manticores and wolves made out of wood and bark do not exist.
At least, that's what he thinks until he bursts out of the Everfree, and discovers that he's landed up in Equestria.
All in all, it's just the kind of day that would have had him swearing loudly and at length.
But Joseph's arrival in Equestria isn't just due to fickle chance, or to the myriad ways of destiny. Dark forces of the world stir, their eyes intent upon him. Sinister motives plot and scheme, and upon his arrival in Canterlot he soon finds himself embroiled in a shadowy plot more dire than anything he could possibly imagine, with far-reaching portents beyond his wildest dreams. As he races against time to unravel a conspiracy against the crown despite being surrounded by mistrust and prejudice, Joseph will discover what it means to be a protector and a guardian of what he loves... and more importantly, what it means to be human in a world of ponies.
This isn't just about the machinations of fate, the paths of destiny, or the fickle whimsies of chance. It is about the way a man is capable of forging his own paths by the choices he makes, despite the circumstances foisted upon him. It is about the power of the freedom of choice, to defy what destiny had planned for you and to create your own fate. It is about how even the unlikeliest of individuals can turn out to become even the most unexpected of heroes, and how one man's desire to make a difference can change an entire world.
He came to their world as a man who barely even knew his purpose in life, much less how or why he had arrived there.
He is about to become a man who will forge his own path to the very heights of their nation.

2984850 Quite a number of assumptions you're making here, all of which are wrong.
One: You're assuming he fought a bear.
Two: You're assuming the hunter encountered his attacker when his ammo box was still full.
Three: You're assuming that all of the shots hit the attacker.
Assumption One: He didn't fight a bear, it is implied that he fought something smaller and more agile, like a cockatrice.
Assumption Two: His ammo box could have easily been already half-depleted when he stumbled into the Everfree, or been depleted throughout his journey through the Everfree until he got taken down.
Assumption Three: Against something as supernaturally swift and agile as a cockatrice, especially with the much smaller target profile compared to a target like a bear, even the most proficient hunter would have trouble hitting a fast-moving target that got the drop on him. Not all of the shots that he fired would have hit his attacker.

Oh me oh my. You do know where to stop your chapters, don't you? Makes me want moooaar of this. Keep up the good work, and the rather fast pace if you can! This seems to be shaping up into something that'll be epic.
Just a thing: maybe you should handle the "chosen one" theme in a bit less obvious way than Twilight openly declaring "my epic senses are tingling".
3017765 Well I can tell you, it's certainly a lot less obvious than "You are the Chosen Human of the prophecy that prophesized your return to Equestria to be our Lord and Savior! All hail the brony!" Now THAT is face-palmingly obvious, not to mention painfully cliched even to me, and I eat up cliches like fine wine and cheese.
Twilight going "something big is gonna go down, but I don't know what" is rather more justified in this case, given the fact that a strange creature from the Unknown Regions has arrived in Equestria; it's pretty much the Equestrian equivalent of discovering alien life, don't tell me THAT isn't a significant, far-reaching discovery. Even if he wasn't the Chosen One, something big sure as hell is about to go down - how do you think we humans would react if we discovered an alien life form stranded on our world? Well, there might not be worldwide riots and widespread panic, but people will definitely be talking, and the media would positively be abuzz with it. Militaries would get mobilized, world leaders are going to start talking, the poor alien would probably get shoved into quarantine somewhere, and in general people are going to go nuts over it.
And then there's the issue of her finding Joe's chain of the Element of Magic - that's another sign to her that something is really, really wrong here. It's less of "The Chosen One" and more of "Holy shit is this guy the antichrist?" Twilight only knows that he's hiding something, and the hunch that she gets is based on her knowing that Joe, by right, cannot possibly have a chain in the shape of the Element of Magic, but he does, and it's right there. She gets a hunch that he will have a part to play in things, but she doesn't know what it is - for all she knows, he could be a sleeper agent put in place to assassinate her and the chain is just a way for him to identify his target (but of course she doesn't consciously acknowledge that, but her subconscious doesn't like it all the same, hence the disquiet).
That don't bode well. You'd better keep that gun close Joe.
