It's been months since Applejack was cured and things returned to normal. Sure, there was the whole deal about swapped cutie marks, then Twilight becoming a princess, and then something about a magic mirror and Spike getting his species demoted to "dog" temporarily, but otherwise it's business as usual.

Or at least it had been until Apple Bloom begins to act much more aggressively towards Diamond Tiara than she used to, much like Applejack did towards Sandalwood initially. Except, Apple Bloom can't be turning into a werewolf, they're all gone now. Right?

Then again, King Sombra was supposedly gone, too.

Life in Ponyville, outside of the usual events like a parasprite invasion or a revenge-seeking, all powerful megalomaniac kicking out the town librarian, tends to be laid back and typical. Which Applejack doesn't mind. However, after the CMC cause more problems due to influence from a newcomer in town, Applejack gathers the girls to go fix what the CMC did.

But then a mysterious creature ends up attacking Applejack, and while she survives and seems fine, it isn't long before she starts acting strangely. It's up to the usual group of ponies to figure out what's going on before it's too late.

King Sombra has returned from his broken state he was left in, and he has taken control of several ponies in order to rise up against the Princess. Driving the whole world to the brink of open conflict, he is bent on revenge for the events at up north at the Empire.

The Mane 6 strive to stop him in order to ensure the success of a peace conference, the last resort to avoid war at their expense. It's particularly bothersome when Sombra has stolen the one thing needed for the conference to be a success.

One cold autumn night, Twilight Sparkle lets in a pale and weary traveler into her home. When she accidentally discovers his dark secret, she is assaulted by him, and is left to die... When she woke up, she finds that she has been turned into a Vampire, an ancient enemy of Equestria last seen during Nightmare Moon's Rebellion. She now walks the thin line between life and death, sustained only by the blood of others.

Her friends now race against time to find a cure for this ancient curse, and stop the Vampire who infected Twilight, before he can create a new army of Vampires to conquer Equestria. Otherwise, Twilight will join the forces of evil and darkness, as the Bride for the Lord of Vampires. They have to work quickly, as every day passes, Twilight's thirst for her friends' blood increases...

After missing out on Nightmare Night, Sweetie Belle enlists the help of some special friends to build the greatest candy empire Ponyville has ever seen.

And there are horror stories which are supposed to scare ponies for a moment, disappearing in time and left alone for a new pony to listen.
The book Twilight found one day at her new library, was mistaken for one of those horror stories...

Twilight had taken the responsibility to watch over 3 certain fillies for the night. Twilight plans on telling scary stories for the night, an the fillies claim they aren't scared of any stories, so Twilight makes a bet, that if the fillies can withstand the whole night, they'll get a reward. They sure do have a surprise coming at the end.

The darkness of winter is upon Ponyville. Fluttershy, trying to escape the melancholy of her lone cottage, visits her friend Pinkie Pie. Pinkie is currently busy babysitting Pound and Pumpkin Cake, but does her best to cheer her up. However, she can't help but feel as if there is something dark and sinister stalking the small town. She excuses herself to make a visit to her friend Twilight, who does little to ease her concerns.

When she returns to the Cakes' home, she can't help but feel like there is something terribly, terribly wrong. The air is thick, and the feeling of foreboding unbearable. Little does she know that there is a spiritual storm threatening to consume Ponyville as the last foundations of sanity crumble into the torrential maelstrom.
