Things weren't always this way between them, but these two creatures have been together for as long as they can remember. Neither knows exactly how that came to be.

Set about a year into another story of mine, Of Dragons and Maternity.

Life for the earth ponies of this barren island is hard. A marauding band of pegasi didn't help. A drought years prior had brought out the worst of tensions between the groups on the edge of known pony territory.

Tiller Draw is under the cover of an on-the-rise musician named Octavia Melody. She's also maybe on the verge of murdering her partner guard pony, Vigil Stance, and about half the population of this town while she's at it.

Set in the continuity of another story of mine, Of Dragons and Maternity.

They all know why they are here. They just don't know how to leave. In one shadowed corner of space rests an academy that plays host to some of the most elite of the elite among the next generation of executives, generals, politicians and mercenaries. The lessons learned and bonds forged will serve them well for a lifetime.

These days, there's no telling how long that life may be.

In a moment, Shining's world crumbles before him. It was a day to be like any other, and now he's lost everything dear to him. No matter what, he must carry on without them and do the best he can for the nation they left behind.

It was a normal day. As normal as Celestia shuffling her off to some backwater town in the middle of the morning could be. Spike was yammering, ponies were getting on her nerves, the coming celebration that night was weighing on her mind. And then she'd gone to the town hall to meet with Rarity. They were greeted by somepony's daughter and Spike hadn't said a word since. Not when the filly talked to him for over an hour. Not when the pegasi with the birds was asking all sorts of questions on his health. What on earth had gotten into him?
