Twilight has more than a few fears about her new position as a princess, but she has little time to dwell on them. A strange scroll has shown up and the writing within indicates that a "return" of "love feeding" creatures is soon to occur. Fearful of a repeat of the battle with the changlings over Canterlot, Celestia sends Twilight and her friends off to investigate this information in the far east. But the task soon proves to be far more complicated than Twilight first thought as the information they find begins to reveal that changlings may not be at all what they seem.
Note: I will be making slight connections to my one shot Wouldn't It be Wonderful? but this should be quite readable on its own as well. ^^

A good mystery and a well written cast! This story should be fun to follow.
I like the use of newly-minted Alicorn Twilight and her discomfort in the changes brought on by it. Of course, even if she doesn't have an extended lifespan, she'd still have a 1 in 6 chance of outliving her friends (ignoring all contributing factors.). I'm not sure if that's really an encouraging argument though.
I also like the obvious concern of her friends, with her being sent somewhere known to drain the magic from a pony. Interesting that it can affect Discord himself. No idea what to make of the dragon or changelings connection yet though...
Hmmm... Shouldn't Twilight already be able to walk on clouds, having the innate magic of a Pegasus now? We've seen Celestia in Cloudsdale like any other Pegasus, after all. Yet she was drained while Rainbow wasn't... Which means that its either not the cloud walking that protects Rainbow, or that there's something to Alicorns that makes a difference. (Who knows how unicorn, Pegasus and earth pony magic all tie together?).
Looking forward to more of the mystery, regardless....
2584582 Ahaha, pony magic logic. It's a world of confusion. Your point is very much valid and I'm glad you brought it up! But I can't help but wonder if alicorns can even be in the same category as pegasus seeing as how they have magic and pegasus normally don't. I kinda wonder if it's magic holding them up? Problem is that we know next to nothing about alicorns really. Cadence seems to have been born as one, but Twilight became one. So that alone shows that alicorns probably don't follow normal logic rules.
Also, some pegasus who are very young seem to have trouble with clouds... Mainly Scootaloo (who also struggles with flying, so that might have something to do with it too). So I wonder if awareness of abilities has anything to do with it. Again, too little info to be sure.
IN ANY CASE, your point brings up a lot of questions with no clear answers so I'll prob just go back and edit stuff for simplicity's sake. I'm already treading on some heavy theoretical waters with Twilight struggling with her alicorn transformation (although that was rather unavoidable), so I shouldn't try to pick up too many other deep theories on pony logic. It'll get waaaay too confusing. lol
...I think the folks in this fic missed a major plot point there.

Well, somepony pointed out what I was going to say, so let me suggest something else: Cloud Walking spell plus boots made from clouds. It's an easy fix, and circumvents the whole "Of course Twi is getting hit hardest, her Unicorn and Earth Pony magic are being sapped simultaneously" issue.
I still say cloud shoes would have worked better. However, if one were to interpret the Cloud Walking spell as tricking one's native magic into acting like that of a Pegasi, than of course it wouldn't work on Twilight. Nice way to keep all the Party Members together, while Nerfing Twilight. It keeps her Earth Pony enhanced strength from factoring into the story at all. (Her Earth Pony "Green Hoof" and Pegasi Weather Control are not relevant, and you already covered her lack of flying skills.)

So far I am willing to give Chrissy the benefit of the doubt that she does not know the full ... fallout? results? of her actions.
Until we actually see her in the story I prefer to think that she is simply unaware of what is happening and would have chosen a different path if she had known ...

Interesting... this fic has my attention. Despite the short chapters it has reeled in my curiosity quite nicely.

Happy you are back! I was afraid you may have become bored & decided not to return. There have some good authors posting entertaining & intriguing stories and suddenly they stopped. Very disappointing when that happens.
