King Arthur, a king among kings, one of the most well known figures of Earth's lore. Merlin the wizard, his close ally and friend. Thought to be mere legends to all, sheer happenstance proves to one individual that lore is often based on reality. These legends, and more, are proven true before his very eyes. His goal, however, is a simple one. Find a way back home.

That said, I think the exposition at the beginning was a bit too lengthy, and not interesting enough for that length. There was a lot of telling, and it started to drag near the end. I know that the nature of that segment made showing difficult, but I think you could have condensed it a little more, gotten through the section a bit faster.
You know what I have come to realize? There could inadvertently be a lot of Monty Python jokes hidden in this story...that is of course if the author wants to be silly and go to Camelot

As far as the exposition, I started experimenting first person here, and I personally am usually lengthy... The last chapter of BOWTN that went up? My editor culled 200 words from it. The exposition probably wasn't helped by the fact that I was thinking about the less addressed things that occur in HiEs. Thus, a whole section on his voice and speech. I'll try to keep it a bit more captivating as it moves forward. Should be less telling once the foundation is laid as well, it's something that I can easily fall into a poor habit with.

Then hop to it! Surprisingly enough, using King Arthur and the legends surrounding him is a rather under-explored area it seems. Only one story really comes to mind beyond this one I started really, and its focus is more on the sole legacy of Arthur somehow finding his way into Equestria and being a Knight, rather than suffering the mortal wound the lore claims he received at Mordred's hands. A Swordsman in Canterlot Court, I think is the title.
1st person is something that is much easier to write between the two for such a story, so far anyways. I'll admit it lets me be slightly lazier as a writer, mostly due to the fact that any quirks in speech or narrative can simply be ascribed to the characterization of the narrator, so long as they all fall closely together.

And exactly what those elements you talk about are and how significant they are to the plot, i.e. if what I dislike gets all the focus to the point where it (mindlessly with no development) overshadows everything else I lose interest real fast.

I only watched through... I think the end of the second season. A lot of shows get somewhat quirky or weird as time moves forward, at least the ones based heavily in the Sci Fi or Fantasy genres. Dramas tend to keep the same thing, just different presentations.

I think the best part of using the lore though is that there are so many variations and iterations of the characters, events, objects, etc that exist. Makes it a bit fun too to work with cause of that, however. And I'll admit, I'm only a dabbler myself, if it wasn't for having interacted with one of the hundreds of stories/portrayals that exist, probably wouldn't have come up with the idea. Now that I've rambled some, I do hope you enjoy it, both so far and in the future. : )

I understand, we all have our things that we dislike. The whole human or pony thing is probably the most vocal point that gets thrown about in regards to HiE stories. The whole 'human in mind but not in body' does seem to stir the ant hills at times. Welp, I suppose if/when he goes back human, I might pester you and see what ya think then. The primary things/people/places I looked into while doing some reading for this was Arthur, Merlin, Mordred, Lancelot, Galahad, Holy Grail, Excalibur (That Welsh name, my god that's cool), Avalon, and The Lady In The Lake for the most part.
