Hello and many salutations, I am a writer/ editor who has been stalking stories here for a few months now and finally gathered the courage to make an account. Cheers!

a more classical tale of horror and the sea.

Wouldn't sirens be more appropriate than changelings, then?

Well no, there are more than just sirens in classic sea lore. You have krakens, sea wraiths, the orc, just to name a few. Within the MLPverse if you go back far enough there is mention of sea dragons. Besides the changeling part is important for a reason, not all changelings are bad.

Classical old tale refers to the writing style, I went with a turn of the century writing style for this one.

Not bad. I like how descriptive you are, and the choice to go with an earlier style of writing fits the theme of sea and fear. Your build up wasn't rushed either, and it lends to the eerie quality of the story. Though not quite spooky enough for my tastes, I very much liked reading it.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I’m glad you liked the tale..

The degree of spookiness in it is due to part of the style inspiration being the short story “The Damned Thing”, which was written over a hundred years ago. I personally find The Damned Thing terrifying for implications hidden within the story, it’s a different kind of scary I suppose.

There is a potential sequel in the works for Hoof Prints, which if made real will be quite a bit more intense for assorted reasons. Implications are the key.
