The evil and corrupt Queen Chrysalis has been defeated. The good and kind King Thorax has been coronated (without a crown). The Changeling Kingdom is being reconstructed by the now-good changelings under King Thorax. Finally free from a selfish ruler, the changelings are going to be happy for a long time.

And then they wonder about what they're going to do.

What is there to talk about when much of their lives was about planning evil plans and finding sources of love (and food)? What is there to do in a kingdom being rebuilt in the middle of wasteland? The only thing that the changelings were sure of was their job in rebuilding the Kingdom. In their free time, there was not much else.

Good thing Thorax was a good king since he let the changelings have free time and free days.

So, some changelings journeyed out of the Changeling Kingdom to travel Equestria.

That was great. I like the way you gave the changelings names based on their occupation (though it does raise some questions about where Thorax's name came from...) and the Joe/changeling banter was awesome! Even if I prefer bagels to donuts myself.

This is only the second story about the reformed changelings intergrating into pony society that I like so far. I'm glad more people are starting to write about this.

>only the second
and hopefully the last, but at least people here have good taste enough that this IS only the second,

I'm guessing you don't like the changelings new designs. That's fine, that's you're opinion. But I really like the new changelings designs and I want to see more stories like this.

Poor Humerus, at his heart he's an excited foal seeing the world for first time, he needs to realize he's not the only one the princess have to give attention to.

He he poor guard changelings, they have to watch foals in adult bodies like Humerus

Baby steps Thorax, baby steps. Of course the first changeling play sucked, creating culture from scratch is a monumental task really. Just remind you people your not mad and they shouldn't give up, they are going to fail a lot. Only infiltrators know what culture is, mzkeing their own and teaching others will take time. A really fasinateing topic for stories

I don't understand why this story doesn't get more views. It's a great story and it deserves more attention.

In a hundred years after a showing of "The Tale of Changed Chanticleer" a group of changelings aproached king thorax and (after giving the traditional hail) told him theyre trying to rediscover the original version of the play.
He was so elated the he gave them all a three month long vacation to zebrafica.

Evil, corrupt, DEFEATED Queen Chrysalis! :pinkiecrazy: Nonsense!

Hard to stay mad a Humerus indeed, he's a big excited kid his excitement is infectious.

The whole idea of the changelings trying to create their own unique culture is fascinating. Having to build culture that is uniquely their own is a dawnting task, they will likely tend to copy at first (it is their nature) and modify things more than make them whole cloth.

Poor Blue Alarms, he gets all the weirdos doesn't he? The childish insanity of Humerus, and now Solver and his paranoia.

I kind of expected a Changeling to be able to read Maud, we know she has emotions she just lacks external expression. So wouldn't a changeling empathicly know what she was feeling?

7977632 Well, as far as I know, the changelings cannot read minds, nor are they shown in the show as good emotion readers. Even individual cases such as Thorax have not shown any great emotion-reading capabilities. The only "emotion specialty" they have is detecting and sensing love, which does not tell much about their empathic abilities.

I hope this answers your question. :)

I think Twilight is going to be disappointed that Changeling culture is at the "Coming soon" stage, she won't even fill one notebook.
Does seem like the Princesses kind of left Thorax and Ember out to dry, the two have no idea what politics is yet. Though at least when talking to each other neither is really at a disadvantage.

The Changelings should build more monuments. That will get their culture up.

8011129 Sid Meier's Civilization (the video game) joke, I see. :)

IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY!
*x-files theme plays*

Can't blame Nastic, he likes ponies and their culture but wants Changelings to have their own not just copy everyone else. Wonder if he'd be surprised his King feels the same? Thorax needs lings like Nastic to help forge a new identity that is uniquely their own.

Mastic still need to learn to be less stubborn the truth is Changeling culture is going to include a LOT of imitation. The only changelings who even understand culture are the ex-infiltrators and that culture is pony culture. The changelings got a country of their own overnight, forming a wholely unique culture takes thousands of years.

Shouldn't Lyra been their too? She was part of the Canterlot crew before moving to Ponyville

8065874 Looks like it must've slipped my mind. :)

Oh dear do the last ponies to use the enchanted Power Ponies comic have their likenesses as the Power Ponies?

Good grief... Nastic and Longwinded are going to be the friendship problem Rarity and Flutters are going to deal with.

What is gamboge? And since when is Futtershy grey olive, that doesn't sound like a shade of yellow.

8108412 Gamboge is a color. I think I should've clarified with "Pale, light grayish olive" since I got that from the MLP wiki.

8108425 OK, that description of Futtershy's color still doesn't sound like a shade of yellow. Honestly I hate obscure color names, they just sound confusing. While I understand the intention, to be more descriptive, the fact most people have never heard of these colors sort of defeats the point.

8108605 You have a good point. I'll take that to consideration. :)

I liked this chapter, and I think Nastic may have changed his opinion of the elements some what experiencing a "light touch" solution to a friendship problem.

It would have been funny if they used Throax treasury to get the book and after a while the King gets a bill of paying 100k bits :rainbowlaugh:

Its stories like this that make me wish people were more accepting of the new changelings. I really like these kind of ideas of this just completely new society/species just coming in and enjoying life.

Okay, that part with Vinyl made me laugh. That was great.

Humerus is super excitable and can memorize every detail about others and loves sweets.... Oh God he's the changeling Pinkie Pie! I think Pinkie needs to teach Humerus about parties. Heck his name is pronounced like Humorous, it fits a party pony or party changeling doesn't it?

Why is half of this chapter in italics?

8141963 It was a mistake. It's now fixed. Sorry. :)

I've read a bit more of this and I'm still enjoying it. I will admit, the transitions and stiff dialogue can be distracting at times, but I really like how you've written the changelings here. I like that they're all different and don't really understand life, making it fun to see them...'change' so to speak and become more than just colorful bug ponies. Its stories like this that make me like the decision to make them good, unlike most of the fandom.

Seriously they need a straight jacket for Humerus.

Not a terribly exciting chapter, but still good. A slower paced and thoughtful chapter helping flesh things out. I hope the show gives use even half this level of development for the changelings. Ponies trying to accept the!, and Changelings adjusting to a new life style with real options for their life paths.

Well looks like everyling is going to learn about reconciliation, and maybe Humerus will learn to calm down.

I'm sure Maud could give them ideas about what to use rocks for.

If the main OCs in this story were voiced, what would they sound like?

8271348
They would sound like the changelings in the show.

Humm this story some how feels like we've jumped forward a little, to a point where some Changelings have moved to Equestria. If that's so maybe some ponies moved to the changeling kingdom?

Well Soulver's lost his mind, not a shock one you think about it. Changelings have never been able to individuals before given that chance every personality type will emerge, including the conspiracy nut.

I saw the use of the word "hand", when we all know it's supposed to be hoof

8296687
That's good. I fixed it, now. :) Sorry for any inconvenience.

I get it now.

Changelings are Americans, and Canterlot is France.
