A sweet story even if the phrasing is weird in a couple of places. Just a personal preference but if you're making an AU you may as well go a step further and remove Cadance from the picture entirely - it would be less awkward than trying to explain the break up.

the only thing I really changed in this universe is that Sombra wasn't destroyed by the crystal heart, He was purged of his darkness (Like Luna was) and returned to being who he was before the darkness took him. This is kinda just a bit of a modeled off the offical comic Sombra, where he's AU good and is corrupted by darkness anyway. The rest is too much to change or too much that i felt necessary . I don't really want to...well, just delete Cadence because she's in the way to shoehorn some manlove in. Sometimes awkward explanations to situations need to exist in life, sometimes you marry someone and find out you don't love them as much as you really do.
To me it's alot easier to build on their relationship if you include what Shining has already done by that point, it gives them something to look back on and Shining something to gauge how much he actually cares about Sombra to actually get divorced over it. Maybe it was him, maybe it was Cadence, maybe it was a mutual understanding, Maybe Cadence knew all along that she couldn't sate his man-needs but hung on for as long as she could (Being the princess of love and what not). Just deleting her devalues half of Shining's actual character that we've seen in the show.

I very much enjoyed this story, though the beginning was a bit prolonged and somewhat irrelevant. Would you consider a sequel or perhaps another AU where we get to see this develop, with more world building and watching them deal with other issues? Perhaps an adventure story prior to Sombra's second reign, where Shining is forced to travel and survive with a newly reborn Sombra against major odds, and we get to see how they fall in love while exploring the wilder parts of the world.

A full on sequel or prequel i don't think i'll be doing. This story alone was planned on being made, just to get the thoughts outta my system.
I don't think I'll make a prequel outlining how they fell in love either. I'm not really fond of writing those (i've written them in the past) they seem very "ok how can i justify these two people making out at a later stage". But nothing's out of the realms of posibilities eh?
Right now I'm actually just working on a little bit of a sort of extra for this story. so you're probably getting 'something' out of me regarding Sombring(That was the nicest shipping name i could find)
