6730328 if they do there governments are ruined forever going down in history as tyrannical and without honor or moral where as spike becomes a martyr. they risk royally pissing off equestrian, the gryphons, saddle Arabia and the changeling swarm, after that it's only a matter of time before said countries form a war coalition, despite there weakened state with equestrias firepower, the other races may survive a total of two months.
None of the other nations in this story have no right to pass judgement, only those countries involved with the fighting deserve to choose spikes fate.
Let him live. Either that or have the mane six and celestia be the ones to execute him, while telling him how they are both proud and disaPpointed in him.
No, actually, have the actual leaders come to the court and accept their fate, in appreciation for spikes actions and out of guilt.
I kind of agree with Meta Knight that the punishment wont be what we expected. After all, the punishment must be equal to his crime and execution might be seen as to merciful for some of the judges. And now I'm imaging something similar to what forrest yuchnitz suggested but instead he is bound to either a pillar or boulder or some other object of some kind and force to stay there for the remainder of his years. A punishment similar to Prometheus from Greek mythology, just minus the bird or something. And I know Spike is strong, but a Tribunal wouldn't have any authority unless they had the power to punish beings like Celestia if they ever needed to be confined.
I hope the next chapter comes out soon but go ahead and take all the time you need ekhidna. Quality takes time after all.
Also, you should have a comma in every natural pause. The lack of "natural pause" commas before a tense shift is especially distracting. And don't be afraid to use possessive tense.
"The horn of Dainn" should really be "Dainn's horn", "The neck of Spike" should be "Spike's neck", etc.
I need some clarification for that, man---I think that all of us are understanding that Spike pretty much expects to be executed for what he did against the caribou, even after he pretty much told the Tribunal everything that happened and all that he did, WORD FOR M/F WORD (that would be the way Spike himself would do it with little censorship). And he still expects death even though he is the center of the carnage of how the Caribou were finally defeated, as well as Equestria and the Empire, as well as other places, slowly recover from the Fall. But there appears to be a growing sentiment that we the readers are not gonna execute Spike because the position could be that as much bad that Spike did after the fact, most could say that Spike came to be that way because of the Fall, and that it was primarily him that Equestria was able to fight back and eventually take back what was once theirs. Yes there were casualties, probably millions of them, but ultimately that is the price of war and conflict, including the thousands that realized what they did or were too far gone to even be saved...
To make it short: Do we still be looking for execution for Spike, as he is looking for and pretty much just at peace with himself that he's gonna be killed (legally--just the method of execution is what is being discussed as well as a timeframe), or should we be looking for a twist in the epilogue where Spike has really been banished rather than executed, and this is kinda like his memoirs since he's dying from old age or something?
6735230 all I was noting was that executing him would be a political nightmare. it would also alter the balance of the world to the point of being a powder keg.
people may say equestrian is weak from what just happened but from another standpoint there much more dangerous, before the caribou invasion the royal guard was all they had really resembling a legit military force, now they have a 'population = army' situation on there hand, more then half of equestrias population is militarized, they are trained to fight, they are seasoned at fighting, and they have the mindset to fight. it can take over a hundred years for a country to fully burn off this kind of spirit if they have enough anger and equestrian has enough anger left over form the invasion that they could go to war at the drop of a bit, a good number of ponies would just be looking for a good reason.
so what happens when the other nations execute there savior? they get there reason. even if celestia was a voice of peace she'd probably be the only one, we saw both discord and lunas anger is more then powerful enough to suspend there reason. if equestrian marches there allies have to come to some decisions and bound by loyalty or fear I can fully see the gryphons and the saddle Arabians siding with equestria. now you have a world war scenario without the other nations being anywhere near prepared to answer an armed threat.
basically spike has become archduke francis Ferdinand of Austria, this council has to choose if there prepared or not to fire that bullet.
So can somebody explain to me how genocide is better than slavery?
I also find it incredibly stupid that spike is (supposedly) fighting to save all the females and yet constantly slaughters caribou females just for being caribou.
6743771 You’re right, genocide is generally looked down upon more than slavery is. I know it’s been a few years since you wrote the comment, so you probably don’t remember much about this story, but I’ll try to explain the mindsets of Spike’s followers, whether going on the mission or not, anyway.
In this particular case, all caribou regardless of gender or age near-mindlessly follow their ways of life - which happen to be very twisted outlooks on gender equality, compared to what is the norm for the other races. Spike is making the argument that not being the “hammer of justice” to wipe them off the face of the world will lead to death and pain in generations time when the Caribou would supposedly come back. He and his followers kill all female caribou not simply because they are caribou, but for the same reason they have to kill the male caribou - they are too far gone, they can not be saved even with all of Spike’s new blue power. They could get away with simply letting the females live the rest of their lives, but some might view that as torture when you deprive a mindless person of what they truly and honestly believe is their only purpose in life. And even then, if female caribou are also to far gone, what can be done with them? In the eyes of most Equestrians - if we’re going by earlier scenes in the story - the popular opinion is that all caribou should pay.
It comes down to this: Killing caribou will save lives on the Equestrian’s side and end the bog of misery all around the country. That’s why they drove them out. But then they have to address the issue of them coming back; what can be done? Wait for the “monsters” to pick another fight, wait and possibly find another solution, or go to their own lands and genocide them, ending the problem? More on the third option: political leaders, I imagine, would be inclined to go with the third option, because if earlier scenes in the story are anything to go by all Equestrians want revenge, and most want revenge in the form of killing the caribou. So with popular demand and all other things considered, it’s likely others would have done this sort of thing regardless if genocide is an okay thing or not
This can all be summed up into one sentence: genocide is not good, but as far as the Equestrians are concerned the immorality of committing it upon the caribou is not as bad as the immorality of waiting for them to even have a chance at redoing what they did to Equestria for a second time.
Basically... genocide is bad, but waiting around for the caribou to possibly (or probably) come back is worse, so kill the caribou and its bingo, problem solved.
9473794 Agreed, he did what should've been done. There is no moral absolute in this story because you cant have a complete goody two shoes outlook everything A O K in the eyes of friendship and magic and all that funny stuff. Its either you let the entire world fall to darkness again, and this time with no hope of rescuing or, you take the lesser of the greater evil and eradicate the absolute evil off the planet. Its not a hard choice, if you were tasked with saving those people or killing 100,000 who all happened to be murderers, rapists, etc etc whilst saving the lives of millions if not billions down the line, You should and would pick the ladder.
Why do I have a feeling his punishment is not what he's going to be expecting
Thank you for this dark yet beautiful chapter.....*sniff*....its wonderful...... *sniff*

I like thinking of all the painful and horrible things spike did to dainn's asshole.
he's expecting to die so much that the only real punishment they could give is for him to live just so he can die from the heart
Let him live. Either that or have the mane six and celestia be the ones to execute him, while telling him how they are both proud and disaPpointed in him.

Am I the only one who found enjoyment in the part when the Flim Flam Brother, got boiled alive.

Few things:
Ya mean he shook his head?

Spike prosecuted a just war, and removed a threat to the world.
Sadly the political powers are in fear of losing face and like in todays world will punish the just for political gains.
Like Europe today ready to crumble holding onto imaginary 'power' as the curse grows.

Nobody's said it yet? Yes!
TASTE THE RAINBOW MOTHERFUCKER!
6730328 You'll see.
6730440 Thank you for reading it all this time!

6731997 It is.
6747817 And it burned him!
Please spare him for once!
That was so epic... Wow. And everyone contributed to the fight.
Well.....buck!
Amazing!
