While assisting Applejack with apple bucking, Spike is asked to climb a tree an personally pick an apple that would not fall. Unfortunately, Applejack forgets he is there and runs off, while Spike just happens to be afraid of heights. This story is basically exactly what the title says it is.

Uh Dragons are cold blooded lizards, and they would probably be fine in a heat wave. Throwing magic into the mix they can survive in lava, as shown by the show.

As light humored as the story tries to be about it, I end up feeling more sorry for Spike than I think I should. It just sucks that two of his friends would be so unnoticed to his existence that it would end in so much suffering on his part. Maybe not include the Rainbow story or having AJ come back at the end with Luna would better lighten the mood a little more.
Overall however not a bad light read.
4817539 Spike would be in major trouble at night though if the temperature fell below a certain point: he would undergo a forced hibernation and fall off the branch, possibly to his death.

After a hot day it's probably not going to lower that much. I mean the magic school bus showed them being kept in a freezer for the hibernation to start. (Yes that is what I base some of my lizard knowledge on.)
As Luna trotted into ponyville Spike asked "Luna can you see into everypony dreams?"
Rarity awoke from her dreams muttering "Oh Dear?"
Spike faints dead away.
Luna answered "Young Drake the Hero of the Crystal Empire , The welp who pines for Rarity the fashion-esta , Spike the Dragon raised by Celestia & Princess Twilight Sparkle" Spike looks at her.
Luna blushed "I see all dreams" She giggled "Even thou Champions , I have seen"
Spike sputtered " Gosh, Mine & & & Ra Ra Raritys?"
"Have no fear Master Spike" Luna cooed "Time is all you need "
Luna continued "She requires lots of children,"
As a lone Canterlot voice is heard in Ponyville "HAZZA, THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED"
The next day, Spike murdered Applejack and Angel. Nopony was terribly broken up about it.

In all honesty from what the show has done to Spike he could fall out of the tree without getting any type of enjury from it
