Spasiba, tovarisch. Today, though I am not an American, I take this day to honor the brave men alongside whom it was my privilege and honor to serve. We sought not to etch our names in the annals of history, nor to be celebrated as heroes, nor for those who would come after us to sing songs of our deeds. We did not fight for our leaders, nor for our flag or even for our beloved, sacred Rodina Maht. We fought for each other, for the man beside us, to live and keep living, and someday, if it were God's will, to return to our families and the lives we had left behind us. But for those who did not return, tonight, I shall remember. Thank you for this, my friend. The fact that you choose to remember those who gave their last full measure for that which they loved, is an honor in and of itself, and a credit to your character. Thank you.

Today, I had the honor of being chosen to start the Memorial Day parade with the simple drum beats on my snare in the school band.
After the parade, we (my family and I) were in a bar drinking soda to cool off. The parade marshal was wearing his old uniform. On it, there was a light blue ribbon with five white stars. He was telling about landing on Omaha Beach. The way he told it, you were there with him. You could smell the sea and the gunpowder, you could hear the whistling of the shells, the explosions, the rapid bark of the BARs and German machine guns, the shouted orders, and the cries of the wounded. You could feel the fear in him, an untested boy of 19, just a year older than me.
There was not a dry eye in the entire place, and you could hear a pin drop during the pauses he took to compose himself. His son, his grandson, and his 10 year old great-grandson were sitting next to him. Whenever he paused to compose himself, his grandchildren hugged him. He seemed to draw strength from them.
May the sacrifices of all those who perished in the name of freedom never be forgotten.
4453422 That was beautiful. Very poetic, my friend. And I thank you for your service, even though we are from different countries.
4453199 Thank you for your service.
If I was eligible, I would join up as soon as I graduate. But, my Aspergers Syndrome prevents it. (Aspergers is a form of Autism. People with Aspergers are now classified as "high functioning autistic" but I was diagnosed with Aspergers, so I have Aspergers, even though they changed it. Temple Grandin has it, Lincoln probably had it, the creator of Pokemon has it, and Einstein had it)

I've heard different things about Asperger's and the military. Can you please clarify from whom/where you heard that definitively, you cannot join?

4453921 The recruiters at High School. It is not Aspergers itself, but the meds I'm on.

Which medications, if I may ask?

THANK YOU.....SO MUCH !!!!!!
