thanks for the update!!
4835952 Verily welcome, thou art!
Just curious as to how often you update this
4836930 Typically once a week. This time, maybe twice. Why?
4837183 I was just checking to see how often I should check up on this. Storyline is great, and your descriptive abilities are amazing.
4837630 Oh, thank you! This project has forced me to push my skills as a Storyteller. By the end of this, methinks I will be just as skilled as Inkpot, The Loremaster...
4837670 Well, with how much work you're putting into this, seems like you're already a pretty exceptional writer. My personal favorite of this is when he first wakes up after the accident and notices his injuries, and the reaction that follows. The profanity is used sparingly, but accurately placed throughout the story
4837698 Oh, yeah, Steven's "colloquial emphasis." Nothing takes the piss & vinegar out of a body than massive physical trauma...
4843569 I can respect that you made an analysis of the chapter you're quoting. I can respect that you are trying to be diplomatic about this. So, let me try and put this as delicately as I can without resorting to unpleasantness.
Imagine, if you will, you are sapient entity that lives on a planet with an atmosphere, ecology and meteorology akin to Earth's. Imagine, also, that your corporeal form is significantly different than say a variant of the local primate species of your world. Now imagine, that due to evolution and sociology, there is a nigh instinctual aspect of xenophobia in our species. Now, take all those hypothetical aspects and add in the factor of being removed from your home planet by unknown means via a calamity of some sort, i.e.: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Factor in, that when you are next cognizant of your surroundings, you discover you severely injured, almost to the point of the death. Also imagine, that the dominant species of the planet you find yourself on resembles the primates you are familiar with, but with sapience and physiology that slightly resembles your own. Also, these intelligent entities are capable of doing things that only exist in mythology or pulp fiction. (Analogous to telekinesis, pyrokineses, cryokinesis, and possibly psychokinesis.) Given that your species is prone to fear that which is unknown to you, and that in some measure, there are members of your people's culture that fully invoke the species instinctual xenophobia for irrational means, just how would you react?
From the get go of this story, I wanted to impress that Steven is acting illogically. He is under the impression that if he isn't dead, he then is either, A.) under powerful and decidedly addictive painkillers and this hallucinating or B.) deep inside a coma where his mind is producing a narrative to keep him sane and calm. Later on, it is revealed that Steven's paranoia is deeply unfounded, but he is not yet come to grips that this is indeed, reality at the point of you make your observation.
Post script: In regards to your comment about The Stare and Discord, there was a reason why The Stare worked in this instance and failed in others. There is nothing I am placing in this story that is not without purpose. Praytell, are you familiar with Chekhov's Gun? This may seem a plot hole to you, but eventually this incident will be accounted for, I assure you. Patience, Young Padawan, patience.
Post Post Script: I remember the episode you graciously provided a link for. If memory serves me, it comes from Keep Calm and Flutter On. That is my favorite episode of Season Three. If I haven't mentioned it before, I am an unabashed fanatic of Fluttershy.
Post Post Post Script: If you any further observations, critiques, opinions, or comments you wish to add, feel free!
4846970 Sorry about that. I'm used to typing in Helectiva and Adobe Garamond Pro, which makes the small text somewhat bigger. Thanks for the comment, by the way!
ahh thats nice... now give that butterfly sugar baby.

Ahh. Nice to know the prop had depth to it. It could've just as easily been an offhand thing that never got explored. Color me impressed.
