The only similarities between Pyralsprite and Pyralspite are the characters' color scheme and blindness, but the nature of Pyralspite's ability to "see" is integral to both Pyralspite's and Terezi's existence and pretty well identified with them. Plus while it's not an entirely unique idea to have a blind character "see" with his other senses (DareDevil came first I'm pretty sure, plus all those "blind swordsman" stories from centuries ago), I thought given the character's draconic nature, identical coloration, and similar name it would be dishonest of me not to at least point out the inspiration.
TLDR version: No, you do not need to have ever read HomeStuck to enjoy this story. I highly recommend it though. It's a good comic.

Literally that is my gripe with 90% of the fics with Spike in it. They make those 2 elements and the "I hate being a dragon even thoguh I know virtually nothing about them" his ONLY characterizations. Thanks for pointing this out.
I always love it when people look at an aspect that the show never does: that Spike is consistently being used by Twilight and the others. Poor guy.

Is it me or i find Pyralsprite’attitude really assholeish? She was taken into their home, got taken care of and healed and she turned into a home wrecker, making spike doubt everything he knows and make him leave his friends. Talk about messing with someone's life out of pride for your species. Also, she doesnt know everything Twilight and Spike have been through, nor knows about their connection.
Spike having nothing to do in his free time would be easy enough to fix, so he could be himself.
Is it just me or did spike overreact a littel.
3554236 A little but the fact that Celestia won't say or comment where she found his egg doesn't exactly help. When someone you trusted without even a shadow of a doubt won't even give so much as a hint about you origins it tends to cause any free thinking being to doubt or re-think everything else in life.
3554153 A little but you have to see from her point of view. Watching a member of her own race doing nothing but being ordered around, anyone would get a little upset. Even Twilight thought that it was questionable when she thought about it. Plus Pyralsprite didn't want to come to this, she kept quiet for that long because she believed it wasn't her place. She even felt regret when Celestia didn't give any answer and hoped she was wrong. And the "Where did Spike's egg came from" was probably going to come up at one, and with Celestia's answer he would probably go out to find his answers anyway.
On a side note, Rarity's confession came out of nowhere. There was no indication that she had any romantic feelings for him, what I got for them most part was she considered him to be a good friend. If she loved him that much she should have said something earlier. Saying now that she that just as he is leaving it sound more like she is just saying it as a way to get him to say.

I agree completely. Tho even if he was being ordered around, he was happy, so her continuing with her plan seemed kind of a dick move. Dunno about you, but i would expand her reasoning "just a lil bit more" as to cover that part. Of course, its up to you. Besides that, i give this story 9,99/10 so far.

Plan? Pyralsprite didn't plan anything, she only told Fluttershy about her concerns because she was directly asked (Fluttershy is uniquely hard to stonewall in this regard), and she responded to Twilight's questions about them only reluctantly. It's not like it was some overarching plot of hers to steal Spike away. All she did was respond honestly about her feelings when asked.

This certainly raises some questions. Do I smell a conspiracy? Princess-to-princess, and Celestia still can't talk about it? Not just won't talk about it, can't talk about it. Is there some cosmic force at work that's actually preventing Celestia from revealing the truth, like an Unbreakable Vow? This story just got about 86% more interesting. The story was good and engaging before (and made me pause to think about Spike's status as an assistant), but I definitely need to know what's going on now.

Spike has a lot to learn about dragons? I think Pyralsprite has a lot to learn about how different dragons can be when they don't grow up around a bunch of bigoted xenophobes (assuming that my impressions of the dragons she knows back home are correct).
Oh snap, I just had a crazy idea! What if Spike is the dragon savior of old, reincarnated? Okay, less crazy now. Maybe he's related to a group of dragons that are different from most (like the savior in the story), and Celestia can't talk about them because their very existence is a secret. Alright, that's enough crazed speculation from me. Still enjoying this and getting more and more curious.

Conveniently forgetting that said dragon was going to smother half of Equestria in smoke if he stayed where he was.
Spike needs to stop carrying the idiot ball in this. The argument about that particular event is as simple as "The clouds of smoke would have caused immense economic damage to the region when all the farms failed, not to mention the potential famine when Equestria's agricultural industry takes that large of a hit."
If the dragon had been sleeping up on that mountain without producing the vast clouds of smoke, nobody would have cared.
