After their defeat at the hands of the Rainbooms, Adagio, Aria and Sonata search for a new motive. Anything to keep them alive. Their aimless wanderings bring them to the home of two people, who themselves have learned from past mistakes.

Sunset Shimmer has finally decided to remain in the human world after the events of the Friendship Games, and has also resolved to study magic in her adopted home and defend it from any threats of dark magic alongside her friends. Then a mysterious incident leads Sunset and her friends to run straight into a dangerous world of supernatural beings that have existed in the human world for eons; twisted souls known as Hollows and the beings known as Soul Reapers that battle them. Where will this twist of fate lead the girls, and what secrets might be uncovered about their pasts in the process?

Adagio, Aria, and Sonata have been together since they were born. When they took over Equestria, Adagio led them. When they were banished to Earth, Adagio led them. When they faced against the Rainbooms, Adagio led them.

Now, after losing all their power and being driven away, Adagio has had enough.

For the first time in her life, Sonata is alone. No magic. No one to guide her. No place to go. However, when she bumps into some familiar faces, she may find herself in a different place. Everything is changing fast and it's hard to take it all in.

Discord, Equestria's resident spirit of chaos, has appeared seemingly only to give the young lovers an ominous message coinciding with a mysterious journal entry from Twilight Sparkle. Sensing trouble, Sunset Shimmer is determined to help her friend no matter the cost. At an urging from Discord, she and Sonata have decided to return to Equestria, but find a world that neither of them recognise.

Octavia is a high-class pony. Fine alcohol is her wont, and uncouthness her intense chagrin. Such is her surprise to find herself lumbered with an insufferable oaf of a DJ pony. However, sometimes these situations work themselves into a satisfactory ultimatum all the same.

It has been weeks since the defeat of the Dazzlings, and Sunset Shimmer's friendships have only gotten stronger. Whilst finally relaxing in the times of peace, Sunset discovers an old enemy: Sonata Dusk. Strangely alone and apparently homeless, Sonata's luck seems to be at its all time low.
Seeing a little of herself in the former siren, Sunset embarks on a mission to help Sonata find friendship.
