I am not very fond of the episode Spike at Your Service. Really because Spike was turned into a complete idiot. I wanted to write something that was more respectful to his character.

An Earth Pony Filly loves to go around and help others with her inventions. One day one of the Elements of Harmony discovers her talent and decides to get a bit too nosy. But the little filly Saving Grace has nothing to hide, right?

This is a story of self discovery, but it is also something a tad different.

When Spike and Twilight get into a fight with one another and Spike storms out, the town goes on a search party looking for the baby dragon. After days and no sign of Spike, Rainbow returns with an injury that could only have been inflicted by none other than Spike.

Realizing the futility in Twilight or her friends reasoning with Spike, Sombra takes it upon himself to find out why Spike was so upset in the first place.

Sombra could never have been prepared for the answer Spike was going to give him.

Side story to my multi-chapter SombraPie fic. SombraPie is included in this story, but to a minimal amount.

Sequel: "Trying To Be Cool"

Spike is left to his daily tasks as Twilight Sparkle is in Canterlot on official business. This includes a visit from Rainbow Dash, who is looking for more books to read. Spike gives her some suggestions and Dash admits he knows what he's talking about. This sparks something in Rainbow's head. She slowly begins to see the small purple dragon in a new light after a number of recent events. What exactly is going on with her?

Spike writes a letter to anyone in particular, in hopes of it reaching his dear friends someday, in it he talks about his memories, promises and motives that lead him to become what today is for his friends and what he wishes to accomplish.

With Twilight away in Canterlot, Spike is left to his own devices. But Ponyville isn't the busiest of towns and before long, boredom begins to creep.

So to cheer himself up he decides to go spend time with his friends. Five stalwart companions whom he has known through thick and thin.

But Spike soon begins to realise that really, those are Twilight's friends. Not his.

In fact he starts to wonder whether, since he moved to Ponyville, he's actually made any friends at all...
