They didn't tell the real story, what it was actually like. So, I've decided to write this book to record some of the truths that have been... glossed over.

To find out more about the evil pony they were warned about, Izzy and Sunny seek out the legendary Princess Twilight Sparkle herself for answers. More specifically, how to find the evil pony and win her over to the side of good with the power of friendship.

They quickly realise that, contrary to what Twilight wrote in her Friendship Journals and what was depicted in Sunny’s favourite cartoon growing up, ‘Guardians of Harmony: The Power of Friendship’, some of Twilight’s foes that eventually became friends didn’t do so of their own accord.

You stand at the water's edge. Feeling the waves sucking at your feet. You think of her. When do you not? With her wings and her spiral horn. Her crown and her kingdom. She is everything you aren’t.

Principal Celestia muses on what it must be like to be a princess.

You'd think these would be good traits, and yet still she manages to nearly ruin Hearth's Warming with an interstellar war.

It has been nearly a thousand years since Twilight Sparkle died. Celestia and Luna are gone. The Holy Equestrian Diarchy, ruled by a bigoted and brutal theocracy, has driven ponies apart and divided them along tribal lines. Unicorns are driven from society, feared and hated.

The lessons of friendship, painstakingly written down in the journal of friendship by Princess Twilight and her friends, have been warped and twisted to fit the Diarchy's hateful ideology. But to the average pony, this is the truth and reality of the world they live in, beset on all sides by enemies monstrous and magical.

Emberglow, a young pegasus mare, aspires to join the elite Knights, magically enhanced warriors dedicated to the holy Saints worshiped by the state religion. Can she uncover the lies and deceptions that have led the world to this bitter place?
