This story is a sequel to A Song of Storms: Of Skies Long Forgotten

It has been twenty years since the fall of the Cirran Empire, and Commander Hurricane has led the pegasus pony tribe into a comfortable role in accordance with the Tri-Pony Compact. But a supernatural blizzard without end brings forth the suppressed hatreds that have festered among the three tribes, and the resulting famine threatens to eradicate all; earth pony, unicorn, and pegasus alike. With a bloody war looming on the horizon and the fate of their ponies at stake, the three tribes must find a way to survive together, or they will assuredly die alone.

Sequel to "Of Skies Long Forgotten." Reading of that story is not absolutely necessary to understand what is going on, but it is strongly recommended for you to understand the references.

Officially part of "The Price of Loyalty" storyverse, in collaboration with LoyalLiar

How far will you go to save your family? Your friends? Your empire? Twenty years before the events of the Hearth's Warming Eve story, long before the pegasi had even met the other two races, Commander Hurricane was a simple farmer in the great Cirran Empire. When the neighboring griffon nation declares war on Cirra and everything it stands for, the young Hurricane finds himself thrown into the middle of a conflict with the fate of his very race put into question. Will he rise to be the pegasus Cirra needs him to be, or will the mighty empire fall to the claws of the griffons?

Officially part of "The Price of Loyalty" storyverse, in collaboration with LoyalLiar.

Now with a side story! Come check out my friend Ruirik's Wind and Stone and follow along with the journey of another legionnaire who struggled through the Red Cloud War at the same time as Hurricane. (*contains references to events in the sequel to OSLF, Snow and Shadows, so be wary*)

Thirty years ago — before Luna's return, before the Mane Six, before everything — Equestria stands on the brink. A harsh winter threatens starvation, discontent threatens to bubble over to full-blown rebellion, and to the south lurk dragons, hungry for vengeance and waiting for a moment of Equestrian weakness.
But Celestia knows how the game is played, and if anyone can right the ship of state, it's her. No one can dance on the edge of a blade like she can; after all, she was there when it was forged. Slowly, delicately, she charts her course —
And then everything goes wrong.

Blackacre is somewhat different fare than the usual you might find here, telling a much darker story than the sort we usually see on Saturday mornings. It won't be for everyone, but then again what is? This is a story of the long con, of the world as it is — a story both of those who reason why, and those who do and die.

The Making Of

Blackacre has a relatively long history. The notion took root in August 2013; it gestated for a time and took its first real steps as part of NaNo in November 2013. It took a finalized shape around April 2014, whereupon the editing started. The text here was updated in July 2014 to reflect those edits — a comprehensive revision and polishing of the text, including several new chapters and several entirely rewritten ones.
The text you see here is the final version of Blackacre; at least, I don't intend on working it over again. That's not to say I don't welcome and encourage comments, questions, or suggestions, either on the text itself or the style; I certainly spent long enough working on it the first time around, and if you enjoyed it (or didn't!) I'd be happy to talk.
Besides, there will always be room for improvement — and there will be a next time.

Sequels & Such

Blackacre has no sequel proper. At least, not yet. It does, however, have companion stories, set at different times in the same universe:
Dr. Strangehorn; or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Elements — a one-shot set in Twilight's future, well after her rise to power.
Twelve Angry Mares — an adaptation of the classic story of a murder trial, set after Blackacre but before the show.

It is a commonly known fact that Clover the Clever suddenly disappeared several thousand years ago, and while numerous historians and other history enthusiasts have attempted to find out what happened to her, and where she disappeared to, no one has ever found out just what happened.

Twilight Sparkle intends to be the one to find out, but how will she react to what is revealed to her?

I want to stress that while this is tagged "adventure" it is not an adventure in the sense that Twilight travels the world or anything, but an adventure in the sense that what she discovers is an adventure in and of itself.

It is the dawn of the Classical Era of Equestria. An aging Clover the Clever bids farewell to her old mentor; Starswirl the Beaded, the greatest spell-caster of the Pre-Classical Era, quietly dead after a long and tumultuous life. Yet, he has left his student something that could upset he scales of balance in the fledgling Equestrian Republic. The Senate, convinced of the righteousness of their Universal Republic and proud of their acomplishments like creating an universal language and currency, are eager to end their tribute to the fickle dragonequus ruling the land from afar. But they need a weapon. A weapon believed once possessed by Starswirl the Bearded.

Clover must discover what Starswirl kept secret all these years. This is his story; a story of a world before Equestria, a dangerous and violent world where the seeds of all the millennia of history to come are planted. A world without alicorn princesses. Or?

This is the first (and probably last for a while, as the author is going to try to get a book published) independent story of the Origin of Harmony series exploring the prehistory of the Princesses and Equestria in general. The story was originally intended to be released in May, but the auhr got severe tendonitis and could not finish the last few pages' till now. To his surprise, he only had to change five lines to account for Season 4. He also apologizes for the vast amount of OCs necessary to maintain character diversity.
