Spike now harnesses the bloodstone scepter making him the ruler of all dragon kind. Of course he hands it off as part of an important lesson on friendship, right? Naw. He immediately goes mad with power.

A scientist wants to take Spike and study him in hopes of understanding dragons; however, her questionable methods make Spike refuse. The scientist counter-argues that Spike is not a pony and the same rights given to a pony, do not apply to him. A trial is commenced with Twilight as Spike’s defense attorney and Cadence as the unwilling prosecutor; Twilight must prove that Spike does indeed deserve the same rights as any pony. Or else, Spike is a lab rat that she will never see again.

This is a fanfic inspired by a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Measure of a Man, directed by Robert Scheerer. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
I want to thank the person who brought me into the fandom for helping me truly refine this idea and truly give it life. You know who you are!
I will say right now, updates for this fanfic may be highly irregular until I take care of certain obligations, but I promise not to abandon it until it's done.

Spike's got three whole days to himself while Twilight is away at the Crystal Empire. Three whole days to be independent and free to do whatever he wants.

Or he would have, if a female dragon hadn't mistaken him for an abandoned hatchling. Now he's been snatched up and taken to her home to be "properly cared for."

Stuck in a cave with an overly-protective dragon intent on mothering him...maybe he should have just gone with Twilight.

Spoiled Rich has just been elected head of the Ponyville school board. With this new job, she's moving back to Ponyville full time, creating a situation where the hired help is too busy with the move to adequately serve her daughter, Diamond Tiara.

Enter Spike, number one assistant to a Princess and hero of the Crystal Empire. He can handle a pushy little entitled filly like her, right? Right??

This story is a pseudo-prequel to Crusaders of the Lost Mark. It sheds some light on why Diamond Tiara had a change of heart, which in my opinion, was way too abrupt in the episode. This story takes place around the time of Princess Spike, even though it bears nothing in common with that episode's premise, other than featuring Spike.

Twilight's gone. In her battle through time, she died, a victim of an alternate timeline. Starlight is defeated, but at what cost?

Spike's lost the pony that's always loved him, the one who acted as a mother, sister, teacher, and best friend. Now he's in pain... but he's not alone. Because Twilight's friends have vowed not to let him become an orphan. In place of one mother, five will now raise him.

Tirek has won his fight against Twilight and decides to ensure his victory in full instead of storming off to destroy Equestria. Too bad there is someone that can stop him.

Now Spike is forced to act to protect his friends thanks to someone doing something that wasn't in the plans of Celestia. Rather impressive considering no one else had tried to do the same before.

I don’t go on a lot of adventures, not unless I’m with my friends. Still, when Princess Celestia showed up and told me I had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet one of my dragon parents, how could I say no?
If I’d known what I was going to find, I might have…
Takes place shortly after Princess Twilight Sparkle.

(Contains some S5 finale spoilers, just in case)

With their battles across time itself drawing to a close, Twilight finally seems to be getting through to her nemesis, Starlight Glimmer. But is it possible to reason with a pony so deeply convinced of their own philosophy that they cannot see true friendship? And if not, what must she do to make sure that such a danger never threatens Equestria again?

So, that season finale eh? I'll be honest, it probably would have worked better if the pace in part 2 hadn't been rushed so hard it went full blitzkrieg. This is just my own short idea of what could have gone down, while also tying it in to the events of the Quickverse. Hope you don't mind it!

Update: And then it had two stints in the popular stories? Wow, I've no idea what I did right but I'm glad you all generally like it. Thank you!
Rated Teen for psychotic pony murder attempts.

The author of "Faith and Doubt" and “The Many Secret Origins of Scootaloo” recounts one of the most dramatic stories in Equestrian History- the night that changed the world forever and heralded the dawn of a new era.

On the cusp of the Summer Sun Celebration student Twilight Sparkle discovers an ancient myth in one of her family's precious tomes and a secret kept by her ancestors for centuries. Her brother, Shining Armor, worries about his sister while also preparing for what he believes to be a quiet holiday in Canterlot, all the while trying to keep the biggest news of his life hidden. Princess Cadence tries to find her place in the world, unsure she has what it takes to lead and if she will ever have the strength to protect her subjects. And Princess Celestia awaits the day a thousand years in the making, hoping for a reconciliation and fearing a war. But it is one mare that will cast the die: the Mare in the Moon. For the hour of Nightmare has come.

In the span of three days an unlikely friendship will be forged among six mares from wildly different backgrounds. A royal guard will find himself in a position he never expected, the eyes of a nation turning to him. An alicorn of love will have to guide a frightened country during its darkest hour. Equestria’s princess will face her greatest mistakes and failures. And Nightmare Moon will demand justice for the lies of a millennium ago.

Featuring some of Equestria's greatest citizens, 'The Dawn Will Come' pulls back the curtain and reveals the full story behind the return of Nightmare Moon, the redemption of Princess Luna, and the rise of the Elements of Harmony. Culled from lost records, rare interviews, and historical research, the tale of the Long Night becomes a historical thriller that will shock even those well versed in the events. See how even the smallest choice to the greatest of tragedies went to shape the heroes of Equestria and begin the country on its path to its Golden Age.
