Princess Luna is a mare of exacting standards. On the one night a year dedicated to her, she expects things to go smoothly. For several years, they have -- children all across Equestria have come to rejoice in her arrival, to thrill at the Princess of the Night enjoying a few hours of scares and laughs. Things have become routine. Comfortable. Reliable.

Then, one year, Princess Luna makes a simple request to Equestria's foremost experts on everything arcane -- the Foundation for Spellcraft and Alchemy. A small order, easily within the capabilities of the mares and stallions that call the Foundation home. A pair of researchers are all that is needed for such a request, two ponies with steady minds and steadier equipment.

Bramble and Willow are not those researchers.

When the duo are forced to improvise, or risk facing Princess Luna's impending wrath on her only night of the year, they accidentally unleash a creation that threatens to destroy Bridle Falls...or at least make the town smell a little more festive.

Since her return and rescue, Princess Luna has been looking for some way to properly honor the six mares who saved her from herself, but nothing she has been able to think of has seemed meaningful enough to repay her saviors.

Nothing, at least, until she spends Nightmare Night in Ponyville, and gets to actually know the six ponies to whom she owes such a great debt. She realizes she enjoys their company, and wishes for them to spend more time with her, that she might grow closer to them.

So, in accordance with many fine and ancient traditions, and after thinking it over for a good...couple of hours, easy, she proclaims that she shall marry all six of them. Oh, and that Twilight will be marrying Celestia, too.

Now would be the appropriate time for everypony to panic.

One year ago, the small town of Ponyville suffered a catastrophe that left it in shambles. In search of answers, and at the behest of the surviving royalty, Written Scroll begins his years-long quest to compile the definitive accounts of those who witnessed the darkest time in Ponyville's history.

Luna has always been an intimidating figure, but when she tries to reach out to the shyest pony in Equestria, will her plan follow through? Or will she be shunned even further?

On the last day of August, something very strange happened.

It began as a peaceful, but tense, protest outside of the offices of a local biotech coroportation. What transpired, however, unleashed a horror that nopony could contain. All of ponydom was overrun by a howling shambling mass. Civilisation was in ruins. Buffets were cancelled. The smell of sugar filled the air.

On the last day of August, Equestria turned into a cooking floor.
