Twilight Velvet loves her daughter with all her heart; she outshines her in every way, is the prized student of Princess Celestia, and will no doubt go on to have an impact on Equestria the likes of which has never been seen before and never will be again. But despite Twilight Velvet's pride and love for Twilight Sparkle, somber thoughts weigh heavily on her mind when her daughter comes to visit.

Why does Velvet feel so inadequate? Why can't she be to her daughter what Princess Celestia is to her? What is the measure of a mother?

Set prior to Season 1. Celestia doesn't physically appear but is mentioned extensively.

Rainbow Dash's dream has come true, and she's been accepted for training at Wonderbolt Academy. All she needs to do is fill out a few forms, get fitted for a uniform, and get vaccinated for Feather Flu.

That last one might be a bit of a problem.

Marston241 showed me the picture, and I pretty much had to write a fic based on it.

Instead of banishing Nightmare Moon, Celestia successfully separates Luna and the nightmare, and both then seal it in the moon, but the stain of both acts are too much for the Princesses and both perish, but not before giving the prophecy of their return. 1000 years later is a changed Equestria, a splintered government, no advanced school of magic, difficult weather patterns, and a looming threat from the Moon. Can the reborn Princesses be found in time? Is friendship still the best hope for a happy tomorrow? The more things change...

Two days after the Mare Do Well incident, Rainbow Dash is feeling pretty rotten about her friends and their actions. But hey, it’s no big deal. Sure she’s feeling betrayed, alone, depressed, forgotten, and all that jazz, but nothing’s going to come of it. Right?

I mean, it’s not like there’s some evil nightmare entity that feeds on pain and loneliness and uses these emotions to turn ponies into monsters…
