In celebration of that and also being so high you think things like that are funny please direct me towards your favorite experimental fics—poetry, randumb, surreal, meta, self-referential, pony versions of biology textbooks or Wikipedia articles, crackships, a terrible story you wrote in 2012 when you were 14 that you thought was incredible but turned out to be unintentionally hilarious, unhinged diatribes “satirizing” a genre, ARGs, political power fantasies, basically-just-a-fetish, drunken letters to an ex-lover, secret treasure hunts written in the cypher of horse-words, thinly veiled suicide notes, fics written entirely with emojis, you name it!

First fic that comes to mind is "It Is All Hell" by It Is All Hell, letter format plus got a non-sequitur second chapter just the other day. Sort of an exploration of grimy feelings of self hatred and being lost. (EDIT: as of 2024-04-23, the original version of this fic has been removed from fimfic. The current version no longer contains the original letter format chapter.)
In terms of poetry, I feel the need to reccomend Three Poems for Discord by Slipshod Extension, which is just very well put together and entertaining. There's my poetry fic too but I think you've already read that!

I look at this, and I wonder what 'experimental' means to people.
I guess to some people it means in practice, 'different from usual fics,' and maybe to some people it means 'Look! I did a story that was very creative and not like anything that anyone else wrote before!'
Which means, the meaning of 'experimental' might vary drastically depending on who is using the word and what sorts of fiction they have seen before or are even accustomed to seeing. What to some people might be 'wow what an experimental fic!' might to someone else be 'oh, yet another one of that type of fic.'
Also, does an 'experimental' fic get positive experimentality points or NEGATIVE experimentality points for being an incoherent thing that successfully bluffs some people into saying 'Wow, dude! I am very smart and this story is very smart too.'
Also, if anyone reads this far down into the comments and maybe even looks at the mentions of experimental fics down here, please either like OR DISLIKE this comment just to show you were here.
