With Twilight holding court, more and more ponies come to visit Ponyville. Royal Pin, the only tailor in Ponyville, has too much business to handle by himself. When he hires help to ease the pressure, at the suggestion of Rarity, he finds a partner in business and love.

A pair of brothers and a set of adventures meet while seeking a treasure secreted away in the Castle of the Two Sisters. After working together to recover a fragment of Princess Amore of the Crystal Empire, the newly formed group finds their task of helping restore the princess far more complicated and dangerous than expected. Using the fragments of Amore as bait, an unknown force begins ponynapping highly skilled unicorns and stealing magical artifacts for an unknown purpose. As the members of the group struggle to bring together the fragments and discover the motives of those taking the unicorns and items of power, they will have their lives changed in ways that none of them expected.

Luna is invited to visit Sweet Apple Acres by Big McIntosh. As they tour the newly created bat sanctuary, the subject of a mysterious new animal visiting the orchard comes up. Luna decides she would like to see the creature for herself. Luna sends one of her guards to look for the creature on his own while she and McIntosh search another part of the grove. The guard finds the creature, but it turns out to be anything but what he was expecting.

Twilight is asked to choose which branch of the Equestrian forces she would like her guards to come from. In response, she invites one representative from each of the three branches to stay in Ponyville so she and the Elements can choose her and Ponyville's protectors with the proper amount of knowledge. Nocturnal is picked by Luna as the representative for her forces. He does his best to meet Luna's expectations, educate ponies about what it means to be a bat pony, and stay out of trouble during his brief stay.

Hayseed Turnip Truck is having a wild day. He is let go from one job in the morning, hired again that afternoon, and finds himself working with his long time crush Vinyl Scratch. He does all that he can to help Vinyl as she suffers a series of odd events herself. His co-workers find out about his feelings for her and encourage him to tell her. However, things don't go exactly as planned.

Luna sends a challenge to the fillies and colts of Ponyville. During Nightmare Night, with the help of Discord’s magic, she turns Ponyville into a hunting ground of monsters, beasts, and foul creatures. Who is the hunted and who is the prey becomes unclear as a small band of friends struggle to make it through the night and accomplish their task.

After learning how to cast Rarity’s gem-finding spell, Sweetie accidentally exposes the Alicorn Amulet’s hidden location in the Everfree Forest. The Cutie Mark Crusaders decide to try the amulet’s power before returning it to its hiding place. Two of the crusaders find that their enhanced abilities are not worth what the amulet demands of them. One, however, comes to the see the amulet as the only way that she can obtain her dreams.

After being abandoned by his brother, Flam finds himself turning to an old friend for help. As he starts to pull his life back together and tries make amends for his misdeeds towards the Apples, he meets the lovely Lyra Heartstrings. Just as their new bond begins to form, their family issues threaten to end their relationship before it even begins.

Marble Pie had planned for a simple trip to Ponyville. She needed to complete some business for her parents, sure, but then she could relax and visit with Pinkie Pie. After volunteering to help an injured pony, she finds herself with the opportunity to realize her aspirations of becoming a cook. She also meets the professional, yet personable Horte Cuisine. With the date of her return to the family rock farm looming, she begins to question whether she should return to the gray world she has always known, or stay in Ponyville and pursue her dreams and newly formed relationship.

Rarity orders a collection of gems from the crystal empire to give her new designs that little bit extra. Included in the shipment is a magnificent ruby that is far more than what it seems. After the gem reveals that it has inherent magical properties, Rarity and the rest of the Elements of Harmony are pulled into an adventure complete with living mannequins, the Mirror Pool, life and death struggles in the Crystal Empire, and a budding romance between two of the most unlikely of ponies.
