Cosmic Cowboy

I'm a linguist. I like ambiguity more than most people.

Rachis Barbule is a well-educated, upper middle class unicorn stallion from Canterlot. Who happens to have a passion and talent for taking care of pegasus wings. Father may not approve, but hey, there's not much competition in a town like Canterlot! And business is never dull.

These were my two submissions to the OC Slamjam writing contest, where everyone has their own OC, every round two contestants are paired together to write stories featuring both their OC and their opponent's and readers vote for the winner. I only lasted the two rounds, but people liked my stories, so I'm publishing them together now.

Round 1: vs. Obvious Question (Bugsydor)
Rachis loves attending the Canterlot Follies every month. He loves the intermission show, when the playwright brings up an audience member or two to interview in front of the audience. Always funny. Though admittedly very scary when he chooses you.

Round 2: vs. Mango Leaf (WandererD)
An old zebra legend from a world a little different than the one we know.

"Hey, Applejack?"

"Yeah, Sugarcube?"

"How come you knew what to do to fight off a chimera, anyhow?"

"Shoot, Apple Bloom, ain't I ever told you the story of Goldie Delicious and the Three Heads?"

"Nuh-uh."

"Well, snuggle up, little filly, because this story's as big a part of what it means to be an Apple as buckin' trees. Y'ready? Once upon a time..."

A cure for writer's block while I wait for editing on my other writing. An idea I've had running around my head for months and months, and finally got around to putting to metaphorical paper.

Before Equestria had a Princess of Friendship to handle (or cause) international incidents, the business of diplomacy was carried out by trained, capable ambassadors, hoof-picked by Celestia herself. In fact, in all truly serious matters, it still is.

One of Her Majesty’s best and brightest ambassadors, Laurel Wreath, has done much to establish friendly relations with the minotaurs in their city-state of Minos. Too much, someone decides. When word reaches Celestia that her star diplomat has disappeared under extremely suspicious circumstances, she knows that she needs to act fast if she wants to stop whatever is next. A fast-flying ambassador might just be able to make it to Minos before it’s too late, but he would need escorts who could keep up with him.

There are two ponies in the Royal Guard who might be up for it, Celestia's captain tells her. His first choice is an abrasive, dispassionate rookie named Lightning Dust.

His second choice is... worse.

Or: "The Most Important Coin Flip in the History of Everything"

Celestia wakes up next to Celestia. This could change the free world forever, unless she works together to preserve the peace.

My attempt at a Random one-shot. I'm not sure if I can make anything silly and inconsequential.

“That’s not true, sis! Ah met a pony who never got her Cutie Mark! What if Ah’m like her? What if mine never comes?”

The one thing that keeps the Cutie Mark Crusaders going through failure after failure is the promise that someday, they will succeed. Someday they will find their passions in life. But when the Crusaders discover something that casts doubt on all those promises, what can keep them going?

Only someone who knows what it's like to not know yourself.
