I wonder if the pool reacts to what is in the caster's heart. Pinkie didn't want to repeat her mistake so she wanted an assistant and friend who wouldn't be just a poor copy of her but someone who could genuinely aid her in bringing happiness to Equestria. What she got was a gift from waaay back in G1. Like her but more a compliment and companion rather than a duplicate.
