This was a read and a half, I'm genuinely blown away by how much effort was put into this!

Words cannot express how thankful I am for this, thank you so much!

Dear Chryssi was many things, but a careful planner was not one of them.

Truer words have never been said--Chryssi was never really one for planning ahead very far.

As I stared at him, suspended like a trapped insect, I knew one thing was certain. I'd never have a minion again. I couldn't trust anypony but myself.

Yeah, that plan really worked out, didn't it? :ajsmug:

Oh my gosh I'm so glad you liked, honestly I thought I'd created a monstrosity XD

I didn't mean to go so far over the limit, but I had a bunch of ideas I really wanted to develop, and also I wasn't counting my words. I didn't realize it would end up this long. :pinkiecrazy:

Tree, is a magic lumber.
Yes it is.
It's a magic lumber.
Somewhere in that ancient mystic trinity,
You get Tree, as a magic lumber...

:trollestia:

I do sometimes think it was a good thing Opaline and Alphabittle never met face-to-face.

Because that probably wouldn't have ended well.

For Opaline, at least. :pinkiecrazy:

There's probably a lesson I should have learned in there somewhere.

None that you aren't going to just swiftly ignore though, Opaline. I think we know your MO pretty well by now. :trixieshiftleft:

Oooof. :twilightblush: Yes, I think all the magic in Equestria wouldn't save her from that one.

"No," she said. "Because I'm not real. You know I'm not."

Ha? Wha...Can you tell me a little about Gertrude? I did not understand correctly..

Canonically, Gertrude is Opaline's favorite manebrush. In the fic, because Opaline has been alone for a very long time at this point, she has gone slightly mad, and invents an imaginary maidservant named Gertrude who assists her with her grooming and hygiene. In reality, Gertrude is just a figment of Opaline's own psyche that tells her what she wants or needs to hear.

This is a lot of fun. From Opaline being a 'background villain' throughout MLP, commenting on the foibles of others, all the way up through the present, this was the most credible take on her history I've ever read. You meet the difficult balance of keeping her malicious and evil while maintaining her quirks and relatable aspects.

Not that there's a lot of competition, but this feels like the definitive "Opaline" story, presenting a plausible timeline while not trying to change her character into something more likeable.

Oooh, that is high praise indeed! I did want to try to do Opaline some justice since I do like her as a character :) It was fun getting to write someone so unrepentantly villainous. :scootangel: Thanks so much for reading!
