Impossible Numbers

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying, And this same flower that smiles today, Tomorrow will be dying."

E

If the soul is a private garden, then Wallflower's is full of choking weeds and abandoned trash. Thankfully, she's clearing it out now, with help from her friend Derpy in the gardening club.

Yet something lurks below the soil, waiting for its chance.

Wallflower wants to bury it, but she's scared. What if it can't be killed at all? There must be another way. A better way to keep a garden pure...

Dawww, that was sweet. Derpy's unorthodox brand of logic always makes me smile. Wallflower therapy for the win!

I love how Wallflower eventually learned to just go with the Derpy-flow.

The rapport between them is actually fun to watch.

:rainbowwild: Wow, you just can't trust this site, can you? I only turn my back for a day or two, and suddenly I get Featured! Stop it!

 Thank you! I generally think of Derpy as having some of Pinkie's essence: loves making people smile, devotes herself to helping others, is considered weird, chaotic, and simple-minded by those who underestimate her, and has surprising reserves of wisdom under her goofy exterior.

It's great to see you enjoyed the fic. Thanks again for leaving a comment. It's been a real treat!

Lovely stuff. I have to appreciate the imagery of the Muffin Queen purifying Wallflower's soul. In both cases, the bubble vision spoke of something happening in this timeline, but greatly exaggerated. But Wallflower's was in the past while Best Human's was in the (immediate) future. Perfectly suiting both of their states of mind at the time.

Outstanding character dynamics, symbolism, and emotional arc. Thank you for it. (And I have to wonder how the flower would respond to someone else poking it. Would Sunset get it to spit out fireballs?)

God, I love comments like this. Really brightens up my day, getting one. Very astute interpretation of those vision sequences. Always interesting to see how people respond to that sort of detail.

Basically: Thank you for the comment! :scootangel:

🎵 Goodness gracious, great balls of fire! 🎵 :rainbowlaugh:

Although now you've got me thinkin', all right... 🤔

No time or coherent thoughts to type out the long thing this deserves but goddamn, knocked it out of the ballpark again. Your prose is always delightful- love your figurative language. Love how much character the narration has, your characters are always so distinct. Really felt for Wallflower trying not to lose her patience, lmao. You always know how to make me think twice about ponies (people…?) I don’t usually pay attention to after their debut episode.

Thanks! :scootangel: Well, you know me by now: if it happened for a split-second background shot in a couple of specials, I'll make a full-blown fic out of it. :trollestia:

One thing I'm especially proud of is coming up with the idea that Wallflower and Derpy used to be friends, but Wallflower hated doing no better than a "loser" friend like Derpy so much that she erased the girl's memories as soon as she got the Memory Stone. Really feels like it complements Wallflower's self-destructive side whilst also fitting Derpy into the picture. It was one of those ideas that came out of nowhere and whacked me between the eyes.
