Deep in the northern hinterlands, the Merrie river cuts through two sister cities—divided as much by war, politics, love, magic, and the arts as by the river itself.  A reluctant peace brokered by Princess Celestia of the rising Equestrian nation rules the present day, where the Guards of both cities must balance their duties, words, and even their thoughts amid the uncertain daily routines.

This story is a companion piece to Noble Thought’s The Primrose War, meant to be an introduction to the themes and plot elements found therein.  Set before the main story starts. Thanks to Noble Thought and Carapace for prereading.

Glad to see this up! It was a big surprise to me when you told me you'd been working on this, and I'm glad to add it to the universe.

And I guess it is a universe at this point.

Thank you, Minds, for helping me with all the editing and pre-reading you've done.

“Merrie, Rosewine, Garden of Love,” Pinewood wondered aloud. “Damn Damme’s dam. All the interesting names are on their side of the river.”

Well I mean....the Damn Damme Dam is still pretty catchy...

“You would have to ask Roseate herself. She reads the treaty like a fly buzzing around a pony’s backside, trying to find just how far to go before the tail whip comes down.” Cordial smiled and pointed to the distance. “Your Treaty Office is just there if you have a formal complaint.”

Hoo boy, it's gonna bite her in her hind end real soon...

“That happens?” His ears sprang up, and he fumbled for more words until they sank down, bit by bit, to lie flat. “I-I didn’t... mean to say... that she was...”

OK, well, that was just rude right there.

Oh wait, nevermind. Sablelock is just a gigantic asshole. Like....woooooow.

Geez, this takes me right back to the beginning of Primrose, when everyone hated everyone and the war sucked ass. I mean, it STILL sucks, but now we know that the two ponies who can do something about are going to. But man, the end was...very sad.

Water and Collar, you gotta end this.

Thank you for the awesome peak into more of Merrie and Damme!

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.

Damn, Sablelock is brutal in her put downs. I’m sure she’s always got a bevy of words prepared for every pony in the Merrieguard.

Undoubtedly. If they want to attack her city, well, she'll defend it.
