Crime and Punishment Part 1

Rarity wasn't surprised when she entered Principal Celestia's outer office and found both Applejack and Rainbow Dash sitting there with both Applebloom and Scootaloo. Neither of her friends seemed to be able to look her in the eye as she took a seat across from them.

"I take it that you two have learned the truth," Rarity asked politely.

Rainbow looked like she was on the verge of tears, while Applejack looked downright angry.

"Girls," Principal Celestia said as she opened the door to her office, "I know that you wouldn't waste my time if it wasn't important, come inside and tell me what this is about."

The six girls silently followed Celestia into her office. She knew that something was wrong. The tension that hung around the room was heavy with emotion.

"I'm here ta confess," Applebloom said, "I'm Anon-A-Miss."

"So am I," Scootaloo said.

"I was also Anon-A-Miss," Sweetie Belle said.

For a moment Celestia didn't say anything, though the silence spoke volumes. She looked each of the younger girls in the eye. Each of them felt as if they were standing in judgement before some ancient and powerful deity, and in truth they might as well have been.

"So the three of you bullied not only another student, but the entire student population, and framed an innocent student in the process," Celestia asked coldly. The three girls couldn't bring themselves to speak, so they only nodded. Celestia ignored the looks on the faces of the older girls. They had never seen Principal Celestia this furious. Silently, Celestia pushed a few buttons on her phone, "Luna, would you please join me in my office." Celestia didn't wait for a reply.

"Whoa," Luna said as she entered the office and saw the six girls, "it's a bit crowded in here."

"Luna," Celestia said as she pointed out the three younger girls, "I give you Anon-A-Miss."

Luna's expression quickly changed to match her elder sister's. She hadn't considered three middle school students could have been the culprits behind Anon-A-Miss. She had been certain that another high school student had been responsible.

"I want them immediately taken to In-School-Suspension," Celestia said, "and I want your recommendations on wether or not they should be expelled, or wether or not we should contact law enforcement."

"Principal Celestia," Applejack cried out, "isn't that a bit harsh! You didn't do any of those things to Sunset Shimmer, and she ended up destroying the front of the school!"

"I will remind you that Sunset is a special case," Celestia snapped, "Luna and I decided that for both her safety and for the safety of everyone involved it was in our best interest to allow her to remain at Canterlot High. Or would you rather her end as a lab expirament in some secret government facility?"

"I never thought about that," Applejack replied. She hadn't ever given Sunset's status as an alien from another dimension a thought. None of her friends had, except for Rarity.

"I know that each of you have said things to Sunset that drove her away," Celestia said to the three older girls, "but I am positive that if you ask her, Sunset will forgive you."

"I'm sure she would-" Rarity started to say.

"NO," Rainbow Dash nearly shouted as she stood up, tears clearly streaming from her eyes, "I DO NOT WANT SUNSET'S FORGIVENESS!" Rainbow then ran out of the office.

"I'll go check on her," Rarity said as she excused herself from Celestia's office. It didn't take Rarity long to find Rainbow Dash. The polychromatic haired teen was crying in the empty music room.

"Let it all out," Rarity said as she embraced her friend, "want to tell me what is bothering you?"

"I can't accept Sunset's forgiveness," Rainbow cried silently, "until I can forgive myself."

Author's Note:

So I am going to break this chapter up into multiple parts.

Remember how I said there would be more hypocrites? Found another.

Found another

"Principal Celestia," Applejack cried out, "isn't that a bit harsh! You didn't do any of those things to Sunset Shimmer, and she ended up destroying the front of the school!"

That’s actually a good point.

"I will remind you that Sunset is a special case," Celestia snapped, "Luna and I decided that for both her safety and for the safety of everyone involved it was in our best interest to allow her to remain at Canterlot High. Or would you rather her end as a lab expirament in some secret government facility?"

I’m actually calling BS on that excuse.

"I want them immediately taken to In-School-Suspension," Celestia said, "and I want your recommendations on wether or not they should be expelled, or wether or not we should contact law enforcement."

Whether.

"I will remind you that Sunset is a special case," Celestia snapped, "Luna and I decided that for both her safety and for the safety of everyone involved it was in our best interest to allow her to remain at Canterlot High. Or would you rather her end as a lab expirament in some secret government facility?"

Experiment.

I’m actually calling BS on that excuse.

You're not alone in that. Equestrian magic is the worst kept secret in the series.

If the Equestria girls government was both competent and interrested, they would've found out by now.

Plus, if the idea was to protect Sunset, why didn't they send her home the instant that route became available to them?

Still interested in watching, but there's more then a few things that don't line up here.

Of course the actual comic was much the same, so that isn't too surprising, but it's still noticable by this point.

I doubt Sunset will Forgive Them (Maybe Rarity and Fluttershy She's Gonna Forgive Then) But The Others No "Especially rainbow dash"

That's why any and all fanfics have AU tags unless otherwise stated by HASBRO.

11006221
That's honestly too much for me. My problem isn't that he changed the way the Equestria Girls government functions as a entity anyway.

My problem is that, in either case, Pony Equestria is still the safest place Sunset could go live in the long term. This argument ignores that fact.

11006233
If you remember, at this point in the official timeline of events in Equestria Girls, Sunset hasn't yet made up with Princess Celestia, an event which wouldn't happen until the events of "Forgotten Friendship", so in Sunset's mind Equestria isn't as safe as WE know it is.

11006205
On top of that, she was doing illegal things before equestrian magic was even involved.

11006221
True, but that’s not the issue. The excuse has a lot of flaws in it.

11006265

True, but that’s not the issue.

Isn't though. We're talking about a fictional universe established by a creative writer. Are you expecting IRL protocols to really apply? If so then it really is the issue.

11006257
We never really get that impression from the show though.

Yeah Sunset is ashamed of what she did in the past, but I never really got the sense she feared for her life if she went back to Equestria.

Some interesting stories do imply as much in a way that makes sense, but there was never any real evidence for it in Cannon.

If anything she seems to have feared being disowned by Celestia, which while emotionally devestating, is still arguably better than imprisonment and dissection.

11006351
Then why didn't she just return home with Twilight?

"I can't accept Sunset's forgiveness," Rainbow cried silently, "until I can forgive myself."

Indeed, Rainbow Dash. As Female Robin tells Lucina in Smash Bros.; but in this case,
How can you expect Sunset to forgive you if you can't forgive yourself?

11006387
And you have hit the nail on the head.

wow that was short!

11006352
It wasn't her choice originally. Twilight all but told her to stay there, and Sunset was hardly in a emotional state to bring up any objections.

Plus she's lived there a long time, and has shown to have grown used to living there, even in her earlier appearances. If nothing else, it's familiar.

Plus the possibility of disownment, by the one person we know she holds in some regard, was probably a obstacle in keeping her from coming to Celestia sooner.

11006403
True, but why did Sunset flee in the first place, she could have gone anywhere in the World that Equestria is in and could have escaped Celestia's notice.

11006406
Probably. But she could've done that, even if she was in fear of her life.

Ponies aren't really the type to hunt down their enemies, and Sunset would know that.

There are plenty of places for villains to hide in Equestria, and we see this throughout the show.

Still, we don't have a lot of insight into her motivations, and the comic (as I understood it) had her escaping custody while she was being escorted on her way outside the city.

So either way, it seems unlikely that fear was the primary motivation for her actions.

Yep, it's tragic alright.

Luna's expression quickly changed to match her elder sister's. She hadn't considered three middle school students could have been the culprits behind Anon-A-Miss. She had been certain that another high school student had been responsible.

It's quite a shocker that it was the three least group of girls to be discovered were behind it. Even I was surprised when I first saw the anonamiss comic.

"I want them immediately taken to In-School-Suspension," Celestia said, "and I want your recommendations on wether or not they should be expelled, or wether or not we should contact law enforcement."

Ok now I think that's going where too far.

"I will remind you that Sunset is a special case," Celestia snapped, "Luna and I decided that for both her safety and for the safety of everyone involved it was in our best interest to allow her to remain at Canterlot High. Or would you rather her end as a lab expirament in some secret government facility?"

She has a valid point.

"I can't accept Sunset's forgiveness," Rainbow cried silently, "until I can forgive myself."

Huh, was expecting rainbow was upset with herself, I actually thought she still didn't forgive her even after finding out the identity of anonamiss.

"I can't accept Sunset's forgiveness," Rainbow cried silently, "until I can forgive myself."

And there lies the treachery of loyalty how can you ask forgiveness when you can't even forgive yourself

In the end, the ones who can punish us the most... are ourselves. Rainbow is going to be hurting a long time from this and will believe she deserves it. To a degree she is right, but knowing her she'll likely go too far in self-punishment.

If It is as I suspect and Sunset tried to kill herself they will all feel bad. Bad enough that it might break them.

Pinkie Pie will likely take it the worse. From her point of view, she had stolen a friend's Smile.

Fluttershy will also take it badly, but I think she has the inner strength to carry one to make it up to Sunset.

Rarity already knows she needs to make it up to Sunset. All that would do would be to increase how much she feels she needs to do to make it up to Sunset.

Applejack is likely feeling betrayed by her little sister, and hating herself. However, she is not afraid of hard work and will do anything she can to help Sunset. She likely will be like Rainbow in feeling she doesn't deserve to be forgiven.

Rainbow Dash will likely be a doormat for Sunset. At least until she feels she has punished herself enough.

11006636
Honestly, although she has a point I feel like that’s not the entire reason they didn’t send sunset to jail.

11015873
Maybe some ulterior motive.

Maybe the Cretins should get physical with each other

Oh yeaaaaaaaah.

will we find out soon to where Sunset is

Well, that was rushed. But a suspenseful yet awesome story nonetheless!

I hope the author returns someday.

This story isn’t dead, right?

I haven't forgiven myself for anything in three years.

Two years ago today 🙏
