Starlight has come to ask Celestia for her daughter, Twilight's hoof in marriage. Celestia is overjoyed yet heartbroken at the same time. You see, Celestia loved her first.

... Okay, I can dig the Twilight and Starlight ship. But the rest feels utterly and completely pointless to be there at all.

This fails utterly and miserably as a one shot. The AU tag only works if there was more that explained the whole section with Celestia and Luna.

Luna being there wouldn't be bad. But there is no in story explanation as to how or why this set up is like it is.

Please read description. Thank you for reading. You've never had your daughter get married, have you? The pain is one of the greatest things a father will ever feel.

I know the song it's based on. It's one of my old favorite country music songs. Doesn't help the story, listening to it again.

Not liking something is fine. Adding it to your favorites after trashing it is another. Thank you for enjoying my story.

I enjoyed it.

Would it have worked better with Twilight Velvet? With Night Light replacing Luna? Since it’s canon and all, you wouldn’t have needed to add the AU tag; or was it just a Momlestia itch you needed to scratch? If that’s the case, well, I can hardly speak down on using AU to fulfill some fantasy world of mine :raritywink:

Sweet little one-shot though, really captured what a parent might be feeling when they realise their daughter isn’t just theirs anymore!

<3 The truth is, when I start an Alt Universe, I like to publish a short story to "test the waters" before fleshing it out. Not many showed interest, unlike you (much gratitude though) and so this concept died here.
