Aw, this was nice and sweet.

Also it went a lot better for AJ than the last time she dug a hole...

There was a hole here.

It's gone now.
~ Yr. Pal, B

“What are you doing?”

“Digging.”

“Why?”

“To make a hole.”

“A hole for what?”

“More digging.”

Immediately thought of that fic too.

It was a lot. Far too much. The idea that a pony was supposed to stand beneath these stars and look up and see everything , not just the carved out circle from the bottom of the hole, was terrifying.

Have you ever read Asimov's Nightfall? Seeing the stars literally makes the general population go insane and leads to the collapse of society.

I'm not sure how reading a fanfiction about Applejack digging a hole sent me down a much needed mental breakdown, but thank you for shifting my view of things a bit.

I haven't, but I like Asimov and that sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

You're welcome! I think?

I couldn't resist.

This.

This was almost overwhelming...painfully beautiful. The emotions snuck up on you...the fear that Applejack might be losing her mind, the sadness she was fighting, the grief at what she'd lost and what she was searching for.

And at the end, it was friendship that brought her out of the hole, literally and figuratively. Thank you for making Pinkie the one.

It was a perfect choice.

So here's a few quotes from a book/movie from my childhood that immediately came to mind when I saw the title and cover:

*ahem*

"It was all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig stealing-great-great-grandfather!"

"If only, if only, the woodpecker sighs, the bark on the tree was just a little bit softer, While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, He cries to the moo-oo-oon, If only, if only."

"I like digging holes."

"I call it sploosh."

...That is all.

"I can fix that."

What a serene, melancholy experience.

10316055
I too, thought of that certain piece of media.

Holey crap!

I thought this was a different hole story

Pinkie Pie, the Philosopher’s Pone. Excellent stuff.

this is the kind of thing you don't really want to read, but also can't put down.

There's a hooooole, there's a hole,
There's a hole in the bottom of the sea!
There's a loooooog, there's a log,
There's a log in a hole and a hole in the bottom of the sea!
There's a braaaaaaaaanch, there's a branch,
There's a branch on a log and log in a hole and a hole in the bottom of the sea!
There's a twiiiiiiiig, there's a twig...

[Several minutes later]

There's a geeeeeeeerm, there's a germ,
There's a germ on the flea and a flea on the hair and the hair on a wart and the wart on a frog and the frog on a leaf and the leaf on the twig and the twig on the branch and the branch on the log and log in the hole and the hole in the bottom of the sea!

:pinkiesad2: This story was pretty sad, still we're going to give a like and stary dealie.

It's a military cadence, something we'd sing to keep us in step when marching. Just what pops in my head every time I see this story. Nothing negative meant. Just me being stupid. :pinkiecrazy:

This was really good; you kept me hooked in. There was no way I could get out of this story before finishing it, and that's a good thing.

I'm digging a hole!

Loved this story! It was great! It was so awe-inspiring, so much of a fresh perspective, I loved it! My only nitpick:

“Then I’ll come and pull you out of it again, duh. And if I don’t, somepony else will. This time I just got here first.” Pinkie disentangled herself but made sure to keep Applejack’s hooves in her own. Hooves still sore and maybe even bloody, and what about Pinkie’s hooves? Had they always been so calloused, had that soft part that pressed against Applejack’s wounds always been so scarred?

But who cares? Great story!

I have no words. This was absolutely beautiful.

Room for a fourth? By the way, there's a sequel:

"Is your last name your first name spelled backwards?"

Loved that book. Louis Sachar is a great author.

Me, too, lol.

"I'm digging a hole!"

2000 words in: Why am I still reading this lol
4500 words in: Oh, it's a metaphor.

10317167
Good catch, thank you.

10317196
I support this. Make it a tag, Knighty.

10317003

's also a drinking song.

10317196
why am i disappointed that one of these wasn't a RickRoll?

Before I read the story and was just going off the title, I was wondering if Applejack was setting a trap for E.T. or Simon.

After reading the story, been there. Been there far too many times.

I know that hole, I've dug that hole before.

Keeping this around for the next time I wanna go down my hole.

10317196
"digs a hole for strange, personal and" is a great story, BTW.

Thought this was gonna go dark somewhere in there. Turned out pretty bright ^^

When I started reading I sure wasn't expecting to cry so hard.

From inside my hole, it's kinda comforting to know everybody feels like this.

Awesome work

Metaphor for what? Sunk cost fallacy? Escapism?

10318931
for depression, you cantaloupe.

10316971
Heh. The version I heard was "There's a fleck on the speck on the tail on the frog on the bump on the branch on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea..."
