Aw, Lorraine. :(

That poses a problem then, because instead of spoilers its a plot hole. Mainly fir three reasons, the first is ignoring the source material that Alastor is an evil demon from hell. Second is that they're acting on infirmation that hasn't appeared in the story and so they have no way of knowing. Third is that dragging someone to hell by default mean unspeakable things, so him saying "Its just a prank bro" doesn't make him trustworthy. In short the lack of a few key details majes it seem like they should be acting the opposite way towards him.

To quote Alastor himself-
You also need to keep in mind ponified characters are slightly modified to fit the world, yes he's dangerous but not to our main characters and they know that.

Its mostly that they're putting far too much trust in someone that they don't have any reason to trust/believe because he is a character from a show they like, rather than him being trustworthy or having a reason not to hurt/do bad things to them. Sone trust would be fine, but it seems like here they're doing so blindly where it would be unwise.
Ascfor the interlude, Lorraine shouldn't worry about what the tiwnsfolk say, she and John have an unshakabke moral highground conpared to most of Ponyville. After all, it is a matter of public record that John, who is a friend of the rulers of equestria, was being hunted down by a mob of mares who intended to imprison and molest him. Although using this on someone would be the social equivalent of the nuclear option.

That's kinda the point, at least from John's perspective. John hasn't really processed much of anything yet, which may or may not come back to bite him later. So far all he knows is 'this character is real and can't really harm us.' Thus it's not that much of an issue.
Secondly, John really wouldn't do that, probably because of the fact that he would forget he has friends in high places. He tends to avoid all conflict unless pushed or stressed to the point of snapping.

Lorraine kind of just has blind faith in people until they act against her. Her catchphrase, for a lack of a better term, is "People are people". Alastor hasn't done anything yet that would make her cautious of him.
She's also a worrier, and as evident by the bonus chapter, is perfectly fine with sacrificing everything from her own happiness to her health to help those she cares about.
Odd how I can relate to the last two paragraphs
10161678 An example to note.
