I always found that scene weird in the episode. Those mares look more like foals next to the stallions even though that's not how tiny they usually are.

The Guardmares in general seem to be really small, in every scene they're in. It isn't clear to me if Guards have always been that much bigger, or if it's a new thing. God knows the whole existence of female guards seems like a baffling addition for a show that's in it's last season(s).

It's probably because the royal guards use a body model similar to Big Mac's. Which means every normal-sized pony is going to look small next to them. Mares in particular since they're already smaller than an average stallion.
