Why was Cadence a tribalist? What purpose does it serve for the story? This also has nothing to do with Flurry's cutie mark, but rather a bet made centering around it which is not treated as the main focus of the story's premise.

well the description shows it to be about why twilight finds it funny. the tribalist is because of complete irony of Crystal ponies all being earthponies. You'll notice i left flurry out of main characters for a reason.

Overall this was a very funny fic. A part of me sees the Princesses having a bet over what Flurry Heart’s cutie mark would be. And yes, I can totally imagine Starlight magic-ing up a cutie mark for her to win the bet.
My only complaint about this fic is Cadance reacting to her daughter’s cutie mark as a “wretched Earth Pony cutie mark.” It feels a bit out of character for Cadance to have that kind of attitude towards Earth Pony cutie marks, considering that most (if not all) Crystal Ponies are Earth.

I think Starlight cheated and gave her that Cutie Mark using her power over Cutie Mark magic to move a random Apple family Cutie Mark to Flurry for a day or two until Celestia did the farm work.
Either that, or like someone said below...Cadance cheated. Everyone thinks Shining is the father...and it's really Big Mac. Explains the insane super strength when she was just born. I mean, seriously, being able to pull Pinkie Pie and so many others across a room without magic? That is Big Mac level strength.
