Although an unlikely pair to their friends, Gilda Grimfeather and Sunset Shimmer have been dating for almost a year. Both brash, confident, and straightforward souls, Gilda and Sunset stuck fast to one another not long after the Fall Formal. Now with much of summer having passed and the August heat beating down on them, Gilda finally convinced Sunset to move out of her little makeshift home in the third story office of an abandoned warehouse and into Gilda's flat with her in the Ponyville Commons before the onset of another brutal Canterlot winter in the unheated office she lived in.

But dating, even long term, is a very different beast from living together, and the prospect has tempers running a little high for both of the girls. Bad habits and little resentments alike flare as they do their level best to get Sunset's home cleared out.

Strongly influenced by the story Featherfall, as well as my deep love of hilariously out of place crackships, this is my submission for Oroboro's Sunset Shipping Contest. Show some love for my best girls, Sunset and Gilda.

I now officially ship these two. They just work really well together.

This is like, Sunset x Gilda lite compared to Featherfall, my actual story. I'm glad though, always good to see some love for my best girls.

Okay, it's offical, between this and the angst-fest (But the good kind) that is Featherfall, I can see these two working as a viable couple if set up right. Bad girls to the end. If I ever write a Sunset/Gilda fic, I blame you m'kay?

9133859
blame away

It seems you (unsurprisingly) have a knack for giving they're relationship some very noticeable not to mention well written depth regardless of the situation/scenario they're in. Well done.

9133968
They’re my best girls after all. I’m not going to give those two misfits anything but my best effort.

I would not mind seeing this as a alternate universe story honestly I like the dynamics here.

9134567
May I direct you to my 100k+ word shameless Gilda/Sunset crackfic Featherfall?

9133993
Don’t forget Sunset x Tempest though. I hope you’re idea for a sequel to Dead By Sunset is still alive :pinkiehappy: I hope this doesn’t come off at all disrespectful or rude by the way :twilightsheepish: also there is something about shipping a pair of “misfits” that is just funny at times yet heartwarming

9134597
That is why I added the alternate part. I've been following featherfall for awhile now and I love it! But just as another telling this would be great. Just my thoughts. Love your work and an eagerly awaiting Dead by Midnight when and if it comes out because I loved Dead by Sunset.

Oh and one other thing which is a half joke half serious question for our favorite cute and messed up bad girl couple: Im pretty sure will at some point see Sunset tutoring/ heping Gilda study but is there a chance we might get to see Gilda working out Sunset at somepoint. It could possibly make for a interesting and possibly slightly humerous chapter?

9134648
Oh, fair enough, I misunderstood. And yeah, if I decide to do Dead by Midnight it won't be until after I finish Featherfall.
9134688
I can't say

So the world were sunset dosen't break her legs. I was kinda expecting Gilda to be the one this time, glad i was wrong

"arms into the air and is exasperation"
I'm not sure what that "and is" was supposed to be there.

"Sunset eyes went wide as she"

"for Sunset it was a more a matter of not wanting"
"for Sunset it was more a matter of not wanting"?

And done! It was good. :)
Though I do still wonder how Sunset got that couch up there...

Iove this story but it makes me angry this is not cannon to the feather fall universe XD

i died a little bit whilst i miss the next chapter this was a worthy replacement good job

Goddamn was i right. Exactly what i was expecting and wanting. Now to eagerly anticipate the next chapter of featherfall. Keep up the great work, bud.

So, I'm going to get this out of the way from the beginning and say that, as much as I like Featherfall―and your style of writing in general, it's coarse but organic, which makes it feel very alive, especially the dialogue―I can't bring myself to read it because the incident with Sunset's back being broken hits too close to home. I don't know how the experience feels personally, but I do have friends and family who've suffered very badly from falling, or things falling on them; my grandfather, for example, fell off a ladder, and the only thing that kept his brains from leaking out the back of his head was that he had his hair tied into a ponytail, and there's how one of my friends in high school managed to shatter her pelvis, so now she's stuck with crutches for the rest of her life. Because of things like that, I had to stop, for which I'm sorry.

That being said, I really like how this shorty is, it feels almost like what would happen if Featherfall was a series of slice-of-life shorts with a thread of continuity between them. I like the angst, and also that they're both willing to acknowledge that, while they might not be in a poisonous relationship, both Sunset and Gilda are inherently vitriolic, that they need to fix it, and that they're willing to seek help for it. There's a good hunk of angst there, but the humility that they show out of love for each other in spite of their proud natures is a display of security and trust that many relationships I've seen in real life don't have. It's a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel, and that's the kind of thing that lets me appreciate darkness in a story, knowing that things can change for the better, whether they actually do or not in-story. Another example of this is NaiadSagaIotaOar's story Who We Are In the Dark, where Naiad and I actually discuss what would likely happen after the events of the piece. The story doesn't end on a high note, but that we imagined a bittersweet after-the-end makes the sadness appreciable.

And with that being said, it don't know whether or not it goes without saying, but I ship Gildaset like FedEx as well. I mean, I can somehow manage to ship Sunset with pretty much anyone who has a vagina, but I savor Gildaset enough that I've actually drawn a bit of it, even before I knew about Featherfall.

I have a disgustingly powerful love of the '80s, hence Sunset's jacket looking like it belongs on Billy Idol, not her.

Honestly, I just like drawing Gilda on the whole, whether as a biker (a story where Diamond Tiara keep trying to come onto her at a bar, so Gilda shuts her down and takes her home):

Or a barbarian (basically a crossover with D&D, I'd been playing too much Dragon's Crown when I drew that one):

That I like to draw Sunset too is naught but more fuel for this fiery ship, and it feels great to know that there are others out there like me, who like to see the two of them fall in love, whether through acts of kindness or from the two of them being punk-ass bitches who decide that they're best off with a zero-tolerance policy on bullshit.

Really strong chemistry for the two of them. :D Though I got a little tired of seeing 'savvy' by the end. :B

This is just wonderful...

Very nice. Is it wrong that at the end I wanted them to shove the couch out on the fire escape so hell can’t have it?

Such bonding. Fantastic writing on attempting a healthy relationship.
