Sunset Shimmer graduated from her place as Celestia's student a year ago and earned her position not only as a sorceress of fire but as a knight of considerable prowess. With her duty weighing her down, and her role as the Princess' blunt instrument leaving her isolated, Sunset's only real friend is a simple gardener.

This is a beautiful story.

THIS IS SO GOOD AND HOMOSEXUAL

Simply beautiful. I would've loved seeing Celestia's reaction to Sunset being with her.

You paint a very interesting world here in relatively short words, and the use of the language of that era only makes it feel more real.

hehe Sunset demands SATISFACTION......SLAP

I love this setting, and this version of Sunset. I'd be very down for a sequel in which they tell Celestia, and then Sunset kicks the ass of anybody who dares disparage Wallflower.

Another quality SunFlower ship-fic from you. To be honest, the world you created has me intrigued and I would love to see more of Celestia's Sledgehammer.

You have given us a glimpse of an incredibly interesting world that I dearly wish to see more of.

Well done, my man. Well done.

A pyromancer with a claymore, I wonder what kind of damage to a Killer a five-foot sword covered in flames could do? This was a great story (like always) though it did throw me off a bit at first since you went with third-person pov instead of your usual first-person pov. Like most other commenters I would love to see more of this world.

Unlike many authors on Fimfiction I don’t really favor one pov over others, at least between 1st and 3rd. I don’t think I could do 2nd. Also, yeah, a pyromancer with heavy weapon’s training is hilarious in my mind. Glad you like the world, I wasn’t expecting the reception this story got.

This story got way more of a reception than I expected, frankly. It was literally just a brain worm I wrote in day and edited over another, so I may considering writing a little more in this world if people like it so much.

Looks like instead pairing Sunset with a muscle gal, she became one on her own. And I'm more than happy for this. Would be interesting what would happen next.

Why Should I Dance
If I Can't Dance
With You

But Sunset, you can dance if you want to!

Nice. :)

I demand a sequel!

Only if you want to of course. But i love this and the fantasy vibes are definitely pleasing this tolkien lover.

Seriously though, as someone who's been following you since dead by sunset, this is definitely one of the best short stories you've made.

So this is about taking control of your life?

I mean, something like that. This story is seriously just a brain worm I couldn't get out of my head until I wrote it properly.

What’s the reason everyone’s scared of sunset?

Oh ok. So it’s not for the contest?

10770550
Sunset, in this, is an accomplished pyrothurge, a fire sorceress, who was trained in magic by an immortal proto-goddess (Princess Celestia), and also chose to learn close-combat sword school fighting using a claymore, which is an absurdly large weapon for a mage to use, and is known for having a belligerent personality and for solving all of her problems with brute force. They have good reason to be afraid, lol.

If you mean for Scampy's contest? No, it's not, lol, that's not allowed. I'm one of the judges, mate.

For some reason I feel like I’ve heard worse.

Oh, my bad. I didn’t know.

I have no idea if "Diamond Dog" holds a more derogatory meaning in this universe or not.

Good question! Neither do I. Like I've mentioned, this setting was created and written entirely on a lark.

well this mini universe you set up was fairly interesting given how short the story is.
I did really enjoy it tho. Love me some swol sunset.

Had this on read it later for a while. It’s quite lovely.

Funnily enough I understand that it’s a popular headcanon that Sunset is the second strongest of the humane 7 next to Applejack. Apparently started by the observation that Sunset was holding the sledgehammer at the climax of the first movie like it was made of styrofoam. Further character analysis that she probably would have despised the feeling of powerlessness she would have gotten upon losing her magic meant it was probable that she would have tried to make herself as formidable as possible in the new world through exercise and studying self defense. So a lot of people consider “Buffset,” to be almost canon and not just a thing for AUs.

I am however one of those people who is irked by unrealistic sword weights though. 99% of weapon weights for 1-handed weapons are 1 to 3 lbs. (0.45 - 1.36 kg.) and 2-handed 4 to 8 lbs. (1.8 - 3.6 kg.). While the rare exotic “super heavy,” weapons that were ever used on an actual battlefield topped out at 12 lbs. (5.4 kg.)

BTW if you do continue working on this universe a superb source for layman beginners learning to visualize how historic medieval and Renaissance warriors actually fought is The Use of Medieval Weaponry by Eric Lowe. The use of large two-handed swords is on of the things he covers in multiple styles. I highly recommend it.

I so imagine Celestia silently squeeing while watching them through scrying and doing a happy little dance due to her sunshine finding love. This was heartfelt, adorable and left a taste of wanting more

If this is a brain worm, it's by far one of the most exquisite brain worms that I've found on this site. This knightly, more disciplined version of Sunset feels like a glimpse into how she might have grown if she had stayed in Equestria, even if this is a very different world from marshmallow magic ponies. Celestia is suitably imperial and firmly attached to the throne in her concerns and mannerisms, which make for a good contrast in how she negotiates problems with Sunset. I don't think I've seen a single SunFlower story that bothers to factor in the relationship Sunny has with her former mentor when Sunset is paired with anyone other than Sci-Twi or Princess Twilight Sparkle.

I also agree that more Wally/Sunny smooches in this AU would be e🅱ic of you.

Sunset seems the type alright. Blunt, cutting to the heart of something. In conversations and in combat, as long as it does not show any of her weaknesses, real or imagined on her part.

nice job on story
