Biggs is becoming my favorite character.

why are so many people chosen for infiltration screwing up their missions:facehoof:

the plot thickens:twilightsmile:

another fascinating chapter:twilightsmile:

I like Zecora, but her dialogue does take some time to write.

I look forward to them meeting Princess Celestia.

Each time there was a technological advancement, the population Uninhabited planets or planets with lot intelligent life were easy enough to claim and harvest or colonize, but if there was a civilization that had a hard problem grasping the concept ‘we have bigger and better weapons than you’, then it was war.

The population... needed more resources? Also, the second sentence makes it sounds like "uninhabited planets" and "planets with a lot of intelligent live" are equal - and even if Haven does not care about which one it is the latter still should be slightly more troublesome (and should therefor be put on a step above the uninhabited worlds).

But I guess I was wrong with my assumption that the Haven Worlds where in a drawn-out war with another species that required them to acquire vast amounts of resources quickly. Seriously, the diplomatic way might be slower, but if they have the luxury of having enough time it might not be the best idea to have a soldier like Laotaner handle the first contact. That woman (demon?) makes me worry...

Also, Rarity in her element. Giving her all, even for "smaller" gatherings as in Ponyville.
Still not sure what to think of Winters. Yeah, he seems like a player whose only worries is his "fun" (and duty, a good way below as his second priority), on the other hand he saved Applebloom. Twice. And it is still better if he only breaks ponies hearts instead of whatever Laotaner might have planed for them...

1050965 Fixed that mistake.

Haven is a growing empire that is gobbling up smaller governments or in this case planets to increase power and resources. The need for resources is apparent since nothing eats of resources like a lengthy war and constant warring is no exception. Occasionally there is peace for a few years before the Havensguard sets it sights on another planet. The government is a lot like the one in Starship Troopers were you serve in the military for a period of time to earn privileges and become a Citizen.

The military and government are corrupt, I can go ahead and tell you that right now since I hope its apparent the way they allowed someone as unstable or sick as Laotaner to run her own crew. As long as she points her violence towards the enemy, they really don't care. Getting a promotion either means you are personal with someone of higher rank or you show that you are willing to get nasty to get the job done. Guess which one Laotaner fits in?

Laotaner as a demon? :pinkiehappy::rainbowlaugh::scootangel: She should worry you.

That's the reason why I love Rarity. It doesn't matter whether its a small social gathering or a huge event with the Elite, she will give all to make sure that she and her friends look fabulous no matter what.

Winter is a complex character. I like writing complex characters. He is generally a good guy, really. If you are hurt and he can help you, he will. He follows orders given to him by his superiors and obeys Laotaner without fault because deep down he believes in Laotaner and the Havensguard. But he does like women and enjoys spending time with them either through sex or non-sexual interaction ( though he finds one more fun than the other :moustache: ) He does find Lyra enchanting and enjoys hanging out with her. And he honestly assumed that Briggs wanted to have a liaison emotions free due to being aware of how attracted she is to him. He's had non-committed sex with women before during his military career and he assumed the same with Briggs.

Briggs, of course, is still green. She's had sexual relationships before, but those relationships had been emotional where her feelings were reciprocated. ( You'll find out more about them later.)

now i kinda want winter to die:twilightangry2:

“Ya called me beautiful, ‘fore,” Apple Bloom said quietly.
Jelly thought for a moment, “Yes, back at the boutique.”
“Naw, ya called me beautiful ‘fore that.” Apple Bloom paused for a moment, bringing Jelly to a slow stop next to her.

Sorry, there is one thing that bothers me here...
Yes, there was that incident when Apple Bloom was sleeping on Briggs bed after playing with her clothes, and if I recall correctly she also called her beautiful back then. And I guess this is the event she subconsciously remembered.
HOWEVER: This was during "Red Comet" and at that time they were talking different languages. Therefore... well, even if she remembers a new part of her lost memories and even though the "feeling" may be slightly similar (Briggs still thought of her as a pet at that time), she should not have had this feeling of similarity.
Still, a cute reference to back then. :twistnerd:

To this I reply, Friendship is Magic.

Tehehe... that after-party affair with Winters struck back quicker than expected. It feels a bit strange to have those ponies talk about sex, but for some reason (or maybe exactly for that reason) it is also... amusing.

I guess if Victory respects anything, it is competence. She seems to be getting along with Twilight quite well, even if she is mostly just using her to get more information. Still, being able to use magic and the thing she is most interested in is how to use it to hurt and kill others...

1074815 Whenever there is a sex scene, there should be a consequence or purpose for that sex scene. In this case, the consequence is Winter breaking Brigg's heart, and it allowed you to see how casual Winter treats sex, and it will also lead the ponies to pry into Brigg's personal life.

As for Ponies talking about sex, unless they make it canon that foals come cabbage patches or clouds, I think its safe to assume that they come about the usual way. Especially since Cup Cake had to go to the hospital and then we have the Baby Cakes.

Victory/Laotaner certainly does respect competence, especially when its doing something to help her reach her goals. Twilight to me seems eager to discuss and learn magic. I think that if Trixie had been a nicer unicorn, she and Twilight would have become good friends. So far, we haven't seen Twilight come across another unicorn as interested in magic as she is that she can have a decent conversation with. So it was plausible to me that once Victory stepped forward with talent and interest in magic, that Twilight would be eager to share knowledge and resources without really realizing that Victory has less than harmless intentions towards magic.

ooh victory is now armed with deadly magic:pinkiecrazy:

i think im gonna like any battle scenes that come up:pinkiehappy:

Surprised that I got this posted today. I didn't get my hands on a copy of Darksiders 2 until the afternoon from UPS so I spent the morning working on this chapter, and then we had a storm and couldn't play my X-box for fear of it being screwed up by bad weather, so I finished this chapter up.

Most in this chapter is mundane stuff which is why I added Slice of Life tab to the story. But the title of the chapter is named for "the calm before storm".

It's a good chapter and enjoyed that Twilight is teaching Jelly magic.

Aww... but it is not her pony. Not hers alone.

Despite being rather short, a lot happened. It doesn't look like Laotanner can be persuaded to abandon her plot - whatever she might be planning to do - in time. It is obvious she has serious problems with her temper, no matter how well she tries to disguise it. I guess it is good that Twilight is at least aware that something bad is about to happen. Even though she has no idea from which direction.

I am still not sure how much I like the idea of Applebloom magically understanding the language of the humans in her flashbacks. Because it was the humans who learned the pony language, she herself never got that treatment (which might be better for her anyway). Also, does that mean she could eavesdrop now whenever Victory and Jelly *talk like that*?

To Mikala Apple Bloom will always be her pony.:heart::heart:

Laotaner's heart is set in stone. That is if she had anything that qualified as a heart. She has problems, lots of problems. If Laotaner was a real person, she'd either be responsible for a horrific tragedy or locked away in a mental hospital. But no such luck for our ponies.

Twilight has more than enough reasons to fear that something terrible is on the horizon. The red comet, her horrifying vision, and Discord making an appearance and running away like a rat from a sinking ship.

Friendship is magic, and I'll try to explain more of what happened in later chapters. Right now, I'm gathering up all loose strings and tying them together into one big ball which I am going to start rolling either next chapter or the next.

The reason why I was able to get this chapter out so fast is because I started working it on it yesterday and I wasn't feeling good on Wednesday so I called in and took the time to finish up the chapter and post it.

Also, I am considering writing a clop fic AU where Victory was able to get Twilight upstairs. :twilightblush: It'll be a oneshot. It'd be my first clopfic, but not the first time I've written sexual material.

Any thoughts?

First Briggs, and now Winter and Laotanner have started picking "their" ponies as well? What's next, will everyone in the fleet get to claim one for their contribution (of conquering a race of pacifist ponies who have no real way to defend themselves - they are true heroes :fluttercry:).
Poor Jelly, being kept in the dark about everything. I guess it really might be better for what the humans have planed, but what else except bringing up the idea of diplomacy could she have done? Whoever let Laotanner in charge of handling the Equestrian Future was an idiot. (And even then, if something goes wrong it would be her to blamed, not whoever put her in power of the operation. So maybe not that much of an idiot.)

Winter... was surprisingly concerned. Despite his loyalty to his captain (and humankind in general) he still had that talk with Lyra. Considering how much he played down what happened between him and Briggs in the shack - which suggests he doesn't take "relationships" very serious - he sure showed a lot of concern for that one mare of another species that he had just met (and is a possible enemy). It must be hard to be a "good guy" in his situation...

On the other hand... Laotanner. No, Victory Jam. The whole situation between her and Twilight made me grin. Somehow.
Sigh, you two should have met sooner, under different circumstances. Maybe having some real friends and people to rely on (out of their own conviction, not because they are your subordinates) might have turned her into a different person.

But it looks like she had made up her mind. Now I am not entirely sure what she has planed, but while it might not be good for Equestria she seems way too over-confident. If the celebration at Canterlot is "tomorrow" and the fleet will arrive in "48hours" it means that she has planed to start without them. That seems... quite in-character for her. On the other hand Celestia knows she is not the real teacher she sent and depending on how far they can figure out the following implications the ponies might have a short window in which they can figure out what is about to happen to them before it actually happens...

1148684 I know that it looks like that each of the human characters have picked out their own ponies, but that's not really the intention for humans and ponies to partner up like in Digimon. LOL.

Jelly/Briggs is going through a period where she wants to trust her mother and hope for a positive outcome. Deep down, she is hinging her relationship with her mother on this diplomacy with the ponies in some unconscious thought that if it works out between humans and ponies, it may work out between herself and Laotaner. But what she doesn't realize that she had already been split apart from the humans in her mission. Where in Jammin' Gemini for that majority of the book she hung out with Victory/Laotaner mostly, then after being rejected after the big reveal, she has spent most of her time with the ponies.

I was afraid that Winter might become another Avatar. Ya know, human guy who changes into an alien and becomes attracted to the a female of the alien race. That was mostly why I didn't show them together too much because I was afraid the story would focus on them too much and give people that impression. Their relationship will have their roles later on.

Winter is a good guy that doesn't know how to be a good guy if you know what I mean. His morals are awry. He's the guy who is in love with his girlfriend/wife, but can't help but cheat on her with other women. He cares about her to the point where he wants to see her safe and if Winter is able, he would take a bullet for her, but he easily slept with Briggs in the shed with no second thoughts about it. Is he in love with Lyra? It's too early to tell, but he does care enough to want to see her safe.

In all seriousness, as I said on my blog, and I'll say it again here. I had absolutely NO intention for Victory Jam to be attracted to Twilight. It happened all on its own. She literally took over when I wrote the scene and directed my writing. Scary thought have someone like Laotaner take over you. But in the future, it will make a lot of sense.

A lot of things could have happened to turn Laotaner into a better person and this goes back further before her military career. Like if she stayed on her medication for one thing :pinkiecrazy::derpytongue2::pinkiecrazy:

And yes, Laotaner has made up her mind. She is set for go tomorrow night and nothing short of death is going to stop her. Her biggest advantage is that the ponies don't suspect her at all and the only one who could suspect her, Briggs, is in the dark about her plans. It's going to be huge, but not in the way as you would expect.

epic chapter (though i only just got around to reading it)
p.s.CLOP FIC PLS:pinkiehappy: (i so wanna see that scenario ^_^)
Edit:nvm found the clop :D

Onward to mo-awwww.

This has been a very interesting story so far, with lots of opportunities for back-story. It does need some serious proofreading.

Hopefully it will continue to be updated, even after all this time.
