wait sunsets family is alive your previous story gave the impression they where dead

hell even canon seems to give the impression she has nothing in eqeustria as celestia is the only thing thats ever been talked about (i personally think celestia is her mother but thats not important here)

The last story was supposed to give the impression that Sunset didn't like to think about her family, because she felt like she abandoned them in her pursuit of power. I'll try to make that clearer within the story.

As for canon, the only mention of Sunset having a family is in a holiday special comic, in which she mentions that they "didn't get along". No specifics are given, so who her family consists of is entirely up to interpretation.

"I don't think so," Sunset replied, observing the horse sculpture that sat atop the pedestal. It wasn't long after camp that they found the massive crack on top of the statue's base, and with Princess Twilight's help managed to seal it up. Sunset was still concerned that perhaps they hadn't gotten all of it, but after checking for what she assumed was the thirtieth time, she decided that there was more likely something else at play. "I wish we could ask Princess Twilight, but her knowledge of trans-dimensional gateways is as limited as ours, and all things considered it's unlikely she'll have any reading material on the subject."

Imo I kinda wish this happened in the snow since the crack was only seen once until the show ended in 2019.

"Because I am going with you."

After what happened last time I say it's a slim chance.

"Then I'll watch you like a hawk. I have ways to track your GPS. I could set an alarm to go off at night if you're within a certain distance to the portal." Twilight giggled internally, remembering how she used a similar method to trick her brother into thinking she was psychic.

Smart move.

Twilight smiled back at Sunset as they were leaving Canterlot High. "What? That's ridiculous! I sound nothing like her!" she said, putting on her best Pinkie impression.
